Busted. A Cheat Caught

Bit extreme but what's stopping someone setting up a fake igolf account for £40 a year or whatever it is to send scores to themselves?
This is what I was thinking. A whole lot of, "no, not possible" in this thread but it is perfectly possible.

Of course it's possible but I'm sure he had a mate who happily approved cards for him without giving it a moment's thought. This seems more likely to me.
I'm sure this will be part of the investigation. And, hopefully we are updated who the attester was when this part of the investigation in concluded.

Of course we’ve only heard one side of the story, and only one person saying that he’s admitted to it.
We might not ever hear the other side,so I’m not going to judge.
I think we will just have to except there are cheats at every club, because there are many aspects to cheating.
I would say if you’re not a cheat then you should sleep well and be grateful you’re not one.

You don't even need an official handicap to attest a round in myEG - free iPlay users also can attest a score for handicap. So it could be done for free, as long as you have access to another phone to sign for the score.

All good but we have a problem in that it's now easier than it should be to cheat. WHS and other rule simplifications to blame. There probably aren't any more cheats but we've given them more opportunities.

Why?

What's to stop me just walking the course with someone who is playing and then attesting their score? There is no requirement that I am aware of to actually play in order to attest a score.
If thst’s the case then that is fine and they can advise the club accordingly. However I would say that this, up until now, has never been the case.

If the away scores are fictional, then I imagine "Joe Smith" is also fictional.
I must confess I don't buy the "mental health" defence/arguement either. His actions have been planned out, and if he hadnt been caught out he wouldnt have come clean.

Very wise words.
