Blobs

I always get the feeling that RGDave was an ambassador. He's just so reasonable and logical about pretty much every subject that is thrown up. No controversial throw away comments or have a go rants.

I like your style Dave :D

I'll tend to refer to the number of blobs I've had if I played to my handicap in terms of stableford points. It's more of a reference point for me, suggesting that my overall golf was steady.

Fixed that for you JD :D

I think the best way to play this game is to be optimistic and keen to play well. If that means that you have to look on results as optimistically as possible (30pts with 6 blobs) then so be it, it's whatever floats your boat to make you feel better and keeps you coming back for more pain and misery

You're very kind. That the nicest things anyone's said to me this year. :o

I wish. D'you think it would dull the pain of no golf for ages?

I think the facination with blobs is it highlights the good holes. If someone shoots 34 points with 3 blobs, it takes the highlight away from the three bad holes and highlights the fact that a percentage of the other 15 were played above the handicap level.

Take Thursday, first game since the start of November and I shot 32 with one blob. One blob doesn't sound bad , but the facts were if it wasn't for birdie for 3 points on 10th and birdie for 4 points on 12th, my card was littered with 1 pointers so effectively I played toss! But 1 blob sounds better than an accurate description of,

"my game was ok, let down by my putting and chipping, if it wasn't for two very good holes I wouldn't have broke 30 "

I think people use it to try to justify their poor points scored.

playing of 15 I know its not brilliant but playing in comps with a lot of high handicappers I feel I came make up a bad hole better in a stroke play comp rather than stableford. A high handicapper's bad hole may be 9 or 10 (blob)where I would like to think that my bad hole would only be a double bogey.
I think its harder for them to pick up strokes later in the round rather that having 2 strokes on another hole, fluking a par and picking up 4points on one hole. ;)

I had 38 points today with one blob.

What am I trying to say??

1) If I hadn't duffed up the 8th hole I would have had 40 points so that makes me even more of a knob.

2) I suppose I'm trying to say that I played 17 holes so well that I could afford to take it easy on one.. :p

No offence taken.

I suppose I am a bandit seeing as my official handicap is 10.4, I played today on a cut (8) and still had 38 points. :o

Mind you, as quickly as you think you've got this game sussed, it'll kick you in the nuts. :D

I'll probably get 25 points tomorrow..
