2024 PGA Championship

Why don't they make the tented village, hospitality etc OOB. Theegala has hit a dreadful shot off the cart path and ended up in a bin in the village but ends up getting a great line from a free drop.

McIlroy will now either have a great round today to get himself in contention, then screw up tomorrow. Or have a mediocre round today, then an absolute banger tomorrow to give himself a chance, only to then finish in 3rd without ever really looking like winning the thing.

It's a difficult one with the caddy. Wasn't his old caddy a professional one? He did alright with him for a good few years, but then the same thing started happening.

Is it purely the idea of having a bloke next to him who might not be scared of giving him a kick up the...? Eg someone like Steve Williams?

There is the Rory round that takes him out of contention to win it, he just can’t string 4 rounds together in a major. It’s why I said after last weeks win that that version of Rory (4 good rounds) only shows up once every couple of years now.

I still expect him to shoot 64 on Sunday to finish top 5 without ever looking like winning it.

Shoutout Bob MacIntyre.

Was made to wait 20 MINUTES for a rules official on his 16th last night. Can you imagine Brooks waiting for 20 minutes for a rules official?

He then went on to bogey 17 and 18. No coincedence. He had cooled by that point.

The third round is set up beautifully. Lots of players bunched in the pack behind the leading two. It's open to a lot of players to win.
It is, but for entertainment and excitement having Scotty sitting 3 back is like the angel of death hovering over the field. I just hope they don't all wilt and they give us something to stay up for on Sunday.

If Scheffler win this, it will be one of the greatest stories in sports history. The guy gets arrested and taken to the local nick, is then released and wins a major?! :D

It’s just such a shame that they’re virtually all Americans though. It’s not good for the game having one country dominate so much, in an era where the sport is more globalised than ever.

It’s just crazy to see how many majors they’ve won since 2015, and how many US players stack the leaderboards, compared to other countries.

It’s mindset for me. The Yanks are brought up from a young age to believe that winning is everything and trumps all else.

Looking at the wiki major winners table is eye-opening 🤯

It’s been that way for decades , even during the highs of European golf the US golfers still regularly won majors

It’s not going to be a surprise when they have a significantly more amount of top level golfers

They have won 280 majors , the nearest is 50 something and that’s Scotland with most of those from the early years

True. But we haven’t seen this level of dominance for many years. In only 3 of the last 10 seasons (including this one to date) have we had 2 non-US winners (ie half the majors) in a season.

If Rory somehow found a way and started winning majors again, it would certainly help inspire the next generation. As it is, aside from Fleetwood, Hatton, Åberg and Hovland (plus Min Woo Lee and Tom Kim of the Internationals) there aren’t too many new major winners in the making. Hopefully this will change in the coming years though, if new talent comes through.

It's a number's game, half the golf courses in the world are in the U.S.A. so probably half the players also. There's probably no other sport in the world that have half of the participants.

Thanks for confirming my point about it being a numbers game. Are any of the above sports not dominated by one country having the vast majority of players?
