Your first set of clubs ?

had the usual bag of odds and ends to start with before managing to get a half set of Greentree Lee Trevino irons. I managed to get a marching 5 wood shortly afterwards. Virtually all my mates had these clubs at some stage or other. You could buy the individually so it was a gradual build up of ypur set. Thorntons Sports in Hanover Street was the place to go for them.

They were Macgregors and I think they called ironman, they had some green graphic thingy on the back. It wasn't long before they got ousted from the bag.

My dad bought me some Mizuno Impact irons and woods when I was 15. Still got them in the shed, the driver is smaller than my 3 wood! With some new grips they wouldn't be too bad and are my spare set for any friends who fancy a hack.

3-8 Joyce Wetherhead Irons aged about 11.
Followed by a beautiful set of Letters Fred Daly [the plain steel ones] The two previous users of those irons both led The Open at one stage. Also owned a set of Maxfli Ossie blades whose pervious owner had led the Ossie Open. Stopped with me though!!

This was my first set and custom made for my height......about 3'6" :)

How many golfers remember their first set of clubs ? I remember getting mine for my 13th Birthday. They were a half set John Letters Supermex endorsed by Lee Trevino. It had a 2 Wood (which was Wooden) 5,7 & 9 irons & of course a putter. I used them up until I was 18 before getting a set of Howsons.

Started out with a set of these (mastermex) a few months back. I didn't find a massive difference switching to a set of MX17 irons to be honest, still a work in progress though.

I had a mish mash of old hand down clubs when I was a kid, a couple of which had the punched marks on the face and steel shafts painted to look like wood.

The first full set I had were Dunlop Tony Jacklin irons 3-SW and Slazenger driver and 4 wood purchased around 1976.

I inherited some clubs from an elderly maiden aunt in 1954. I have no recollection of their make, only that she used them when living in India in the 1930s.
