Why is Golf so under-credited?

To me the answer to the OP question is simple. Unless you try and play it - and stick at trying to play it - you just can't and won't ever understand the complex nature of golf. Watching golf not ever having played it must seem weird and to be honest it will be a pretty (even very) boring watch most of the time.
 
Yeah I didn't say it's not popular, I just think it needs more credit in the news etc.

No one sport is "better" than another. All this chat is very naive.

99% of people (pros) take up sport because they enjoy it....then at some point they realise they can make a career out of it. If you have the desire and dedication to succeed in sport then you are certainly not short of passion. Golf is a more selfish sport so maybe you'll see more frustration out of a struggling golfer than a struggling footballer.

The newspapers will print what people are interested in e.g very little, if any, NBA basketball make it into UK papers...why? Because the folk buying it don't care that much about it.
