Like the title of this thread says,

Why is Golf still such an under credited/under rated sport? In my opinion Golf beats any other sport by a mile. The sense of achievement after a good hard round, the social side of it, the mental side of it? Surely it's the toughest game?
Just an example, Europe smashing USA 18-10 in the Solheim cup on American turf and I personally didn't see one thing in the news about it? Justin Rose barely got a mention for winning the US Open this year. It really does annoy me!

What are peoples thoughts?

Because in the eyes of the media football is king. Look at all the Olympic achievements from last year and how many of the UK gold medal winners can you name. Some sports are just seen as elitist or minority and golf comes into the first category. Fortunately there are some really good publications that cover specific sports so I you want coverage you can get it.

Shamefully that's true. But Football has lost its way now. All about money, the Premiership (supposedly the most exciting league in the world) is the same 3 horse race every year. And 'respect' went out the window in Football a long long time ago.

Yeah I guess, just annoys me. I believe it needs more credit, Golf has taught me a lot of things and the etiquette of the game teaches you a lot about respect. Granted there are still some people who give Golf a bad name, the typical gents that seem to look down on everyone else but you rarely meet people like that anymore. It's a changing game and deserves more respect/credit!

Yeah, football is all about money. As opposed to these gentlemen playing for $10m odd over the next three weeks.

Well I've just got back from my first premiership game of the season and absolutely loved it, I go to golf every year and it's fun but you don't see the result in front of you as you do in football.

At least if they win it, they've earnt it! Same can't be said for many footballers, they get paid no matter what.

Not in the real world, no, but in the context of a sporting achievement.

Same as footballers - billion pound TV deal and they are the asset.......you could argue that they have "earned" their slice of that cake. :)

Have you got any idea how much the likes of Tiger & Rory get for appearance fees at some events??? Sponsorship deals are huge in golf. So a golfer can become a multi millionaire with out winning an event. Makes me laugh when people make out that golfers are hard working squeaky clean professionals as oppose to footballers.

Earned it is arguable, all them hours and years of practice? It's not like you can exactly walk in and get a place in the PGA? these boys at the top, most of them, probably had many weeks in lower tours where if you didn't win, you simply didn't earn!

& footballers just bought a pair of boots at 16 & boooom made millions?? Sorry mate but golfers like footballers are paid a stupid amount of money for something they enjoy.

No of course not, just once you've made it pro you're sorted in football. Even if you sit on the bench you'll get your wage! I just think Football has lost it's way, not half as much passion in it anymore in my eyes. That's all!

So if Rory or Ricky Fowler never made another cut they wouldn't be sorted for life? Both early 20s & I'd guess would have more £ than a lot of premier lge players

Rory would because of his Nike deal, I highly doubt Rickie would have enough already to last a lifetime? All I'm saying is Golfers have more passion for their sport than Footballers do. The only teams that win things now are ones that have been invested in by some multi billionaire who can buy any player in the world, where all the players barely even work well together! Aka Man City. Think 10 years back and how **** they used to be! Money is Football now

If we are being very honest here - both golfers and footballers receive a ridiculous amount of money for what they do.
Whether it is deserved or earned is debatable.
In the majority, both golfers and footballers would do it regardless of the rewards.
