they need to be affordable so price
try before buy so they must be available
they have to work for me so performance

whether looks is a part of performance? I have only ever relected one club on looks (and sound) even though I hit it well.

need_my_wedge, I just bought the FP's, they feel so light and I was very impressed. I tried the new Wilson DI9's, Ping G5's, Mizuno MX-200's but the FP's won hands down on feel and proformance, I just need two tapes on the grips and they get picked up on Friday.

I used to have Slazenger XTC with carbon shafts (bought in the days when Seve was slazenger sponsored :-). When I tried the FP's (new lightweight steel shaft), they added 20 yds to my shots, and were way more accurate........ at least they were when I did the fitting :-)

performance, performance, performance.
Looks
And ................ ok then poser :D

Price would never come into it.

Brand loyalty, you've got to be joking, unless they sponsored me.

Because my favourite player uses them? Nah, never tried one that my fave uses.

Name, Nike etc.... Why?. What's the point in shelling out the best part of a grand if you can't hit a ball with them.

I've gone for Looks, Performance and Recommended by my pro.

I need to feel that I can use the club, I need to like the looks of it to give me that feeling. Performance, well that's easy, can I hit it and hit it well. Recommended, well I tend to buy from my club pro, same guy I get lessons from so I've no complaints about his service or his recommendations as to what suits my game.

Oh and I do like to pose a bit, got to keep the clubs nice and shiny and nicely arranged in the bag. Makes me think I can play this game.

I always buy on what suits my game but tend to focus first on the cheaper end of the market or on the bargains that can be had from last year's kit. Would never have paid £300.00 for my FT5 but £169.00 with a dozen free balls meant it seemed a good purchase.

At my standard I will buy what suits but will not spend hundreds on getting the latest thing.

To be honest I've chopped and changed all my kit probably twice in the last year/18 months looking for the right set.

Hope I've got it now...

One reason and one reason only. I bought the clubs that suited my game the best.

I didn't have any particular "brand loyalty" when buying my current irons (Wilson Staff PI5). Went in with an open mind and came away with what best suited me.

Can't help feeling that too many people buy top brand golf gear in the hope that it'll instantly transform them into single figure golfers. It will not happen.

DHM.

I have always liked plain looking irons and i find Titleist the nicest set of irons i have ever hit, with every club i buy it has to have a good look down and thats about it,i just got a Mizuno driver which is stunning to look down on its nearly as good as the Cobra speed pro s the sexiest driver i ever seen
