Why do some folk still hate Nike?

2 of the best looking sets of irons available in my opinion. I don't have any Nike clubs but just about everything else is Nike... Bag, cloths, shoes, pitch mak repairer ect

I tried last years nike driver, before choosing the cobra amp. I had a shot of the rbz, John letters and callaway driver.

out of all of them the nike felt heavy and as said previously it had a booming noise.

same happened when I was buying new irons, had a shot of the nike irons and never really fancied them.

I'm at the other end of the spectrum with Nike, I think they make some quality golf gear and wouldn't discount any brand because they're relatively new to the market.

I've had a Nike driver which was a hell of a sound but quality club. I've had Nike irons again superb clubs only upgraded because I had a custom fit done.

Last club that was put in my bag and will remain for a long time is my VR Pro 2 Hybrid its superb and is probably the most used club in my bag off the tee.

The clothing as well I really like it, well made and keeps you cool as well as having some colour to it unlike a lot of bland brands! The shoes also are superbly made and waterproof as well as wearing better than any others i've tried.

i think some people like to stick to traditions a little to much which blinkers them from opening up and trying new things, after all how many people still say Ping are old mens clubs yet they do so well in all the tests and those that use them love them myself included.

Nike are the new kids on the block. They've really only been making golf clubs for a relatively short time. To do that they will have bought in as much technical knowhow as they need to get their offering to market. Add to that some slick marketing and you have a product range that is never far from the potential customers eye.

I must say, in that respect they have done well over the past 10-15 years. Woods and Duval were the big two signings that made Nike Golf what it is today. No doubt about that.

As to their rather varied product line over the years, I think they have tried to be all things to all men at times and not had the best offerings to do that. they do currently have some very visually appealing clubs. Don't know what they are like to hit as the only ones I've had the chance to play were a set of wedges I won in a competition. Not my cup of tea , but each to their own.

I dunno mate,I think Tiger's own management (and Tiger himself) are more to blame for the way he handled that incedent, can you name any other Nike staff player who is subject to "heavy management presence",I sure can't!

Nike called a lot of the shots with Tiger and his branding.

Less so with some other players of lesser status, not sure if the world would be rocked if Carl Petterson admitted to some indiscretions - may even improve his image, and it remains to be seen how they promote Rory. I think that they have realised they over branded Tiger even when they knew well there were some skeletons in the cupboard, and they are adopting a lighter touch now.

It is noteworthy that they normally require a full bag and apparel deal with players. They are very concerned with total image control. Other brands vary, with some requiring irons only, or a certain number of clubs and apparel separate.

My 2 son's have been playing golf for just over a year now, and I've played either Wilson or Ping since I was a kid.

My eldest is on a Cobra AMP Cell quest and my youngest wants Nike when he grows out of his Jaxx junior set. When presented with Mizuno, Ping, Wilson, Taylor Made, Titleist, Calloway etc. their response (pretty much in unison) was "But they're old mans clubs!".

Some of the younger generation see the brand name and top (or favourite) players using them well, and that's enough. Forget heritage, it's cool, current and SHINY! They don't just want the clubs either. Branded bags, clothing, accessories are also on the shopping list.

Each to their own. If looking down at Nike or Dunlop gives you the confidence you need to enjoy the game - go for it.

Good post bud,cheers!

I own a lot of Nike clothing, however i have never tried the clubs.
In fact when i went for a fitting for my present clubs i suggested trying the Nike Vrs,the
fitter said they wouldnt suit me.
Looking back i wish i had tried them.
Its amazing how many have tried them, and had them, but dont use them, including
yourself.
Surely if there so great they would still be in the bag.
And to be honest Rory hasnt helped there quest to be a top brand for top players.
And maybe if they never payed him 150 milion, they could make them cheaper to the mass
market.

Deke unfortunatly i have not.
Since i got fitted[care of GM] for my current putter,i sold it straight away.
God i wish i had that putter now, however im sure things will improve when the greens improve.
Just on another note, even though you have started to buy Nike again, what was your reason
for deserting Nike for Titleist?

I have pro combo irons. They are my nicest irons yet. I have had their drivers, which have been ok, but I prefer titleist. That said, my cally extreme is as good as any. Nike make nice stuff. You just need to get passed the fact it is made in sweat shops. Can I say that?

That putter was a beauty eh? After using stiff Nike VR cavity backs I tried slowing down my swing so I got a set of reg Cobras and reg Cobra/Cally woods, but then after some lessons my swing got a tad faster and I picked up an ex demo AP2 6iron.I hit this club so much better than by Cobra 6iron so I treated myself to a full set with project x 5.5 firm shafts(same as my ex demo club).I also like to tinker with my clubs so Titleist woods/hybrids suit me very well.Titleist gear looks awesome too! But I am happy to split my bag with Nike,Mizuno, and titleist gear.

Yikes,I had never considered this! I imagine quite a few companies do the same,do they not?

I travel a lot in china, and it's not as bad as its made out. Sweat shops are not what they used to be. The minimum wage is pretty decent now, as are the working conditions, and the hours. Elf n safety are almost western standards, there is no longer compulsory over time. no need for a guilt trip!

Nearly everything is made in china now.
