Hi gang,I have been thinking about this for a while.Despite Nike making great clubs, having superb staff players, and often offering good value, why do so many golfers still shun this brand? Any ideas? Any haters care to share their reasons? Cheers!

Do you think that perhaps some golfers see them pretty much as 'Johnny come latelys' and possibly targeting the younger end of the golf market?

I am just a snob. I am aware they make some great kit but its just not a brand I want on my golf kit. Shoes yes, clothes yes, clubs and ball no!

Maybe a few years ago,but they make great clubs that often get good reviews too,I just don't get it mate!

If we are considering the big brands then Titleist, Mizuno, Ping, Callaway, Taylormade, Cleveland, Wilson, Cobra, Nike, MD, Adams, Benross are all on my radar. :p

i don't hate nike, they make great trainers.

to be honest i have never had a chance to try out their clubs,
i wouln't mind having a go with a nike fairway or hybrid
but i think i may be a little bit too snoby to go for an iron set or driver by them at the moment

I know a young lad from N.Ireland using them, he hates them compared to his old ones, but will struggle on as he gets a few quid chucked his way for using them. ;)

OK, serious, its brand perception, I know for example TM are owned by adidas, however the perception is you are buying Taylormade clubs, would they sell as many if they were branded Adidas? I think sales would slide for the same reasons that Nike come up against, as has been said a few times already, people see the brand Nike and think Nike Air trainers, or similar. not top of the range golf clubs, so IMHO they get overlooked when there are "golf only" brands available.

I have hit some nike clubs and they have all been very good, no complaints, i just wouldn't buy them unless they were CONSIDERABLY better than what i currently had.

Nice to see a few of you being honest about your snobbery! Kudos chaps! ;) I still think a few of you should give Nike clubs a go,they make some really good stuff, and the previous years kit is always very cheap! Personally I would use Asda branded clubs if they worked well.

I think it is because Nike made their name in other sports before moving to golf.
Their early clubs were not great but they make some good looking stuff now.

Most of the other brands were golf only companies to start.

But why Alex?

I believe that its because I see them as a "neon" brand. Its my own word for description but other brands I see as neon are TM and now Cobra. Brands with high advertising budgets and bright colours. I do not want to be sold to, I am not interested in your huge claims, get out of my face. I as per my sig and bio(not its lay out its content) like understated, classic style that does what it needs to do.

I am not right or wrong, its just my outlook. I am the same with anything in my life, I like things that smack of quality not that shout the loudest.

What do ye reckon?

Hmmmm you may be hitting the nail on the head there - The previous years kit is cheap!!!!!!! try buying last years Titleist , Ping or Mizuno irons cheap! ( Note I am leaving TM well out of this)

I'd actually be more likely to buy TM clubs if they were branded as adidas clubs, but that's just me.

I'm not a big fan of Nike in general pretty much for the same reasons that Alex outlined. I see them as a bit loud, a bit brash and a bit in-your-face. Having said that, I'd buy their clubs if they made a significant difference to my game, but I don't think they would. It's not my clubs that are my problem.

Well I see your point bud, some of the more mass market stuff is a tad garish, but the VR range is rather classy looking I think, great stock shafts too!

I have to like the look of a club if I'm going to use it with any conviction.
Apart from a couple of sets of irons, Nike haven't made any clubs, even the Covert, that I like the look of so would not use.
I also don't like this phrase "hater".
I don't hate Nike, I just don't like their clubs. There is a difference.

Not found any Nike clubs that I would prefer in the bag over my current clubs. Have nike trainers and now some nike golf shoes (slightly disappointed to be honest) and will happily buy their clothing, but to date they haven't brought out a golf club that in my opinion I can't buy a better version of from elsewhere

Couldn't have put it better myself.
