How will handicaps work under WHS in Matchplay.

Will it be

1. work out your handicap and round as present (.5 going up .4 going down) opponent works out theirs the same and the difference is then calculated

or

2. work out the difference in exact figures then round up/down

Will we not have exact and playing handicaps in future, like we have at present?

I'm pretty sure you will use your Handicap Index (similar to exact Handicap) and determine what this converts to as a "playing Handicap" based on the slope rating of the course you are playing. Your opponent will do the same.

Then you will apply the appropriate rule for the matchplay format you are playing (eg full difference, 9/10ths etc) to your "playing handicaps" to determine who gets what shots.

You will not round up the decimals in your Handicap Index... The published stroke tables at each course will determine your playing Handicap.

It could easily happen that if two players played a match on a home/away basis that the player receiving shots gets a different amount in each game...depending on the slope ratings of each course.

So you are going with 1 and not 2

In the new system you have to remember that you have a handicap index and a course handicap. You use your index to find your handicap for that course based on it's slope rating and use that.

so you are saying 1 but the course handicap is already a whole number.

Will we not have decimal points in our handicap index but need playing handicaps in match play.
Won’t we have playing handicaps for stroke play events?
How else could you calculate Stableford points etc?

Yes - the slope matrices only output whole numbers so it won't be either 1 or 2 as written. The output playing handicap will always be a whole number, and be used as such.

Surely the whole point is that you will have a Handicap Index (to one decimal place), which converts to a Course Handicap (whole number) for the course you are playing. As does your opponent. You use the difference between the course handicaps. Which is basically the same as present where you use your (whole number) playing handicaps

(And if it's stableford, you simply base your points on whatever is your course handicap)
