Who is the best classic rock band

The Who.

I liked Floyd, ACDC, Queen, The Cult, The Cure and all them great bands....

....but nothing gets my foot pressing heavy on the accelerator like Won't Get Fooled Again.

You listen to that in the car, with the window down and the sun beating down on you, sunglasses on, singing your heart out like you're finally on tour, cigarette on the go as well. You just know you've arrived and you look cool as f*ck. Sort of.

Rush. Saw them back in the 80's, absolutely fanbloodytastic live, sounded just like the records. Seen them since around 6 years ago. Looking a lot older (but so were the fans) but still sounded great.
Others of note:

Quo, awesome live band back in the day with the original line up, saw them several times.

Iron Maiden, saw them at Bradford St Georges Hall years ago. Small venue, BIG noise!!!

Saxon, MSG, Thin Lizzy, Scorpions, Boston.

Another vote for The Who, superb band

Saw Iron Maiden on the Seventh Tour of a Seventh Tour and were superb.

Only got to see AC/DC at Download last year and were as good as I hoped.

Saw the Foo Fighters this year and am convinced that 10 years down the line they will be remembered as a classic live band.I have been to many a gig and they are up there with the very best.

I'm going to Lanzarote soon Puerto Del Carmen to be precise. I've just found out that Rory Gallagher plays at a bar called Charlies, I'm going to check him out, I haven't seen him since the 80's.

again what is rock, who defines it? for me its The Stones, though they started out closer to Chicago Blues, but Santana, Thin Lizzy, Steppenwolf, Yes, Queen, Alice Cooper, Genesis - the list is endless.
don't necessarily agree with all the suggestions - I did get a Rush cd to see what they were about, thought I was listening to Toyah Wilcox

Richard fell asleep in the back seat while DavidM blasted out some Echo & the Bunnymen tunes, which went down a treat. No complaints re stilton aroma thanks to the handy insulated bag provided by your good self.

Right first time for me - Rush.
Nobody to touch them in terms of musicianship, lyrics, variety of material, awsome live shows and most of all longevity. First saw them on the Hemispheres tour and they were still brilliant last May at MEN on the Time Machine Tour, simply the best concert I've been to. Never been seen as a top top band by most but I'll bet their ticket sales are twice what some of the so called super groups ever managed. Absolute class.
