Club wise I see more TM stuff in bags than anything else on the market.

Balls without a doubt its Titleist as everyone seems to have a pro v1 in there bag, its normally me being the only one in my group not playing one!

Ping. Others come and go but Ping just seem to go on and on. Even several of the pro's playing at the weekend had sneaked Ping clubs into their TM/Mizzy/Cally bags.

Going by the majority of bags at my club would have to agree, invariably there is at least one ping club in the majority of them.

It's hard to ignore TM's marketing wagon.

I'll agree with Val' about Accushnet being, as a whole, on par, perhaps bigger, than Taylormade/Adidas.

Ping have picked up their marketing just lately too.

I can only see Taylor Made as the #1 for the near future. It's their (loud, brash but effective) marketing that works 'best' in spite of all the complaints about it!

Best performing part of the group (TMAg) and seem quite acquisitive - Adams last year for little money.

Callaway seems to have little time to make headway into the same area - and all its numbers have been in the wrong direction recently

Accushnet actually got split off a few years ago - Cobra being sold to Puma - before the rest went to (Korean owned) Fila group.

Cleveland/Srixon combined a couple of years ago and are solid, but won't compete at/with the b/s of TM imo.

Ping has a certain way of working that appeals to many, but doesn't grab every last customer the way TM does. Mizuno seems similar to me, though different products/market.

Nike is the only brand I can see that will possibly move forward big time, though I don't seem them doing that for a year or 2. They seem to want to buy their way in with big name signings rather than broad base ones, but haven't quite got the full range of products - or at least don't market them well enough - to sell to the 'mass market' the same way TM does.

My summary is TM #1, Nike chasing, Callaway fading, others staying pretty much as now.

If you research Sumitomo, the ultimate owners of Srixon who, in turn, acquired Cleveland then you can see the potential is for Srixon/Cleveland to be the biggest brand by a margin.

However, there is no definitive answer to the original question as no parameters have been set.

Profile would be TaylorMade, Titleist or, largely as a result of recent publicity, Nike as these are golf brands that would be recognised by the general sporting world.

Sales are dependent upon the markets in which companies operate. Both Bridgestone & Srixon are massive brands in Asia but much less so in US and even less in Europe. Ping are major players in US & Europe but, I understand, not so in Asia.

So how do we measure "the biggest brand"?

I agree that the parms are not exactly rigidly defined, but the OP did say 'Brand in golf' as opposed to 'Brand into golf'. That, to me at least, eliminates both Sumitomo and all but the Golf part of Bridgestone - own brand too, as i believe Bridgestone make balls for other brands as well. Same applied, to me, when Titleist/Footjoy/Pinnacle/Cobra were part of the empire that includes Jim Beam.

I agree. The point I failed to make was that if, say, Sumitomo wished to dedicate the resources into promoting the Srixon/Cleveland brand they could become the major brand in golf.

Of course, whether any major conglomerate will ever see any sector that is always likely to be, in relative terms, not much more than a niche market as worth that level of attention is questionable.

I'd have thought TMag currently hold the lead. I think Nike will do all in their power to take that position over the next few years, using their big two names as a sledgehammer to get there.

If you go on sales alone then in the UK it is TM by the published figures. However, Ping do not have to publish their figures as they are still a privately owned company so nobody other than Ping knows with any accuracy where they sit in the market.

We gotta be honest, for selling the most clubs its gotta be TM, does anyone disagree?
Are they the best clubs? i think No, but they are still a very good brand despite the gimmicks

Personally i think Titleist, Mizuno and Ping are the best

But what does the best even mean?

It depends on how you define biggest.
The highest turnover?
Most actual clubs sold..?
Most used on Tour?

I'd suspect TM turnover the most numbers and the most cash too at the moment.
They sold a huge number of RBZ woods and R11 and S drivers.
They also seem to have the highest exposure on Tour.
Doesn't make them the best..........

Agree totally with above

For those that say Cleveland/Srixon being a bigger brand than Titleist/Footjoy/Vokey/Scotty Cameron............................. im sure you see what im getting at ;)

Realistically I think Hendo knocked the nail on the head saying Nike is the biggest brand but do they sell more golf gear than Titleist or TMAG? As a brand they probably are the biggest brand probably not only in golf but sports brand in the world.

Come on Big Man are you on the Pop.

There is no way that Nike are the biggest brand in golf, the only folk I see using Nike gear in the amateur game is the Chompers who don't know any better, you see more club golfers with TM, Callaway or Titleist clubs than that of Nike. And as for the Pro game there is no question that TM have the market share.

Think he meant nike are the brand known world wide for various sports, not the biggest in golf itself. I do however feel that Nike is on the up and may be the top brand in Golf. However interesting to read everyone's point of view.

Yeh, I know what he means but the thread is about the biggest brand in golf not sports and there is no way Nike will ever get the top slot :mmm:

I think I see what you're getting at, they might pay the most in endorsements and advertising and hence the 'brand' is the most visible.

That doesn't equate to being the most popular or having the largest market share or whatever.
