I'm just in the process of looking at possible alternative courses for membership next year (I know, again!!). One thing that I'm particularly interested in is the length of course from both Yellows and Whites. I'm not exactly sure why this is interesting me, but I think it's because I want a longer course that means using mid and long irons a lot more than I currently do.

My current course is 5778 off the Yellows, and 6063 off the Whites. Its a fairly tight tricky course, but most approach shots are hit with the 7 iron and up.

The course I played on Thursday is 6000 yards off the Yellows and 6400 yards off the Whites. It required better and more varied approach shots and I believe would help my game in the long run..

So, How long is yours?

Approx 6,600 off the whites (par 72 css 72) and 6,400 off the yellows (par 72, css 71 i think), not a great difference between the two with only one hole where it makes it almost a different hole

I suppose it helps to keep down wear and tear a bit on the tee boxes if nothing else.

Our main difference is our three par 5s (off the whites) which are par 4s off yellows, difference in length is 82, 60 and 101 yards.

6319 off the blues (Comp tee's). Most of the Par4's are a drive and a wedge for me but it's defence is lots of bunkers and raised greens.
Keep looking at a local course that is 6800 off the comp tee's, but its £1400 for the first year compared to £500ish what I'm currently paying (until I'm 30)

Length isn’t all that...................so if a course is 7000 yards and it has three or even four par fives then the rest of the course could be relatively short, or shortish.
You could play a shorter course that has no par fives, but has some bitch long par fours.
The Hirsel, not the longest golf course, Dodgers place. You cant just fire away at a 320 yard hole thats tree lined with a tight dog leg for the last 120 yards.

Whites 6290 par 70 SSS 70
Yellow 6118 par 70 Sss 69

A varied test with a good mix of holes tight in places, although plans to add a little length 2 new tees and a total of 82 yards to the whites, which may possibly increase SSS to 71 as it actual comes out around 70.4 at present according to the recent development plan drawn up.

I am a member of a Public course and it is 6,494 off the Yellows, par 74. I don't think it has been measured from the whites yet as it was only last year medals started being played.
