Whats in your bag ?

Driver
4 wood between 16 and 17 ° depending on how I feel..
19 hybrid
22 hybrid but sometimes 23
26 hybrid or 5 iron
Irons and wedges and a putter..
I've been convinced for years that most amateurs shouldn't have a "proper" 3 wood in the bag as a 4 goes roughly the same distance on a better trajectory and is easier to use.
True to a certain extent Imurg but it's a bit horses for courses imo, Dunbar where I play has 4 par 4's on the back 9 between 432 and 460 yards that generally play into the prevailing west wind, fairly often needs a well struck 3 wood to have any chance of reaching in 2, don't know if I could do so with a 4 wood (but have never tried it so who knows !)

In my winter carry bag

Benross hotspeed driver
Benross hotspeed 5 wood
MD Golf 21° hybrid
(4 sometimes),6,8,PW & SW Maxfli Revolution Midsize irons (half of my full set)
Ping Scottsdale TR Senita putter

Dozen balls
Footjoy waterproof jacket
North Face waterproof trousers
Wooly hat with peak
Callaway waterpoof bucket hat
Sunglasses
Rain grip gloves
Flask (rusty nail) and cups
Tees, markers, pitch repairer
Fairway mat

At the moment just tees and balls the rest has been taken out whilst the bag dries out.
Now that bit of rain was not in the forecast or else I would have used the waterproof bag.

Starting to think about a new set of clubs for February and thinking about maybe just ditching my 3 wood. Cant hit it off the ground, pro suggested maybe just forget it and go 5 wood or maybe even just x2 hybrids.
So thought i would ask on the forum how peoples bags are set up ?

In relation to your question I carry High Loft 3 wood, 5 wood, 19 and 24 degree hybrids. The 5 is a new addition this month just to see how it compares to the 3 wood. The 19 and 24 hybrids are keepers. The 3 wood is mainly used off the tees and whilst we have lift clean and place and I would not use it of a poor lie.

What loft is the 3 wood?

I am in the process of doing what you suggest - dropping my 3 wood, as I rarely use it now. I don't like it off the deck and my driver is as reliable off the tee. Considered 5 wood - even played with an old one I had for a while, but am now demoing a Ping G410 19 degree hybrid that I think will replace my 3 wood. May even get another one in 22 degrees and play driver, 2 hybrids then irons, starting at 5, and maybe put in a 3 when its windy and i need a lower flight (play a links course).

Driver 9*
2/3 wood 13*
5 wood 17.5*
#4 ping hybrid iron.
5/pw
50/56/60 wedges. (Thinking of new 54/58 ones)
Putter.
Need wedges for the short game at my place that’s more important than long game.

Driver 10.5, which I like but is quite old.
3 wood, 13.5, iffy off deck but good off tee.
4 wood 17, not too enamoured, favourite to go to naughty step
7 wood bubbleshaft 21, love it.so easy to hit.
Irons 3-SW Muirfield blades to choose from.

Lately finding irons 3, 4 ,5 go nowhere further than well struck 6 iron.(slow swing speed now.i'm old)
Considering sacking them and so need hybrids from 21 degrees of my bubbleshaft to 33 degrees of my 6 iron.

Any suggestions which are good ones to consider, please.
Fixed or adjustable lofts?

People struggle with 3 wood off the deck hear that a lot.
I went for a fitting at PXG and said that to the fitter.
He took the club off me adjusted the hosel and said “ try that”
I middled everyone .
He said “PXG hosels have a 3* flat setting and most people hit it better in that position”
It’s brilliant so I got a 5 wood as well

Never really had an issue with hitting a 3 wood (or driver on occasion) off the deck, think I must have quite a 'shallow' swing, 3 and 4 irons were always my issue, ditched them for hybrids now.

Adjustable Callaway epic flash driver, currently trying 9.5 loft. 3W 20 Deg loft. 4H, Rogue X irons 4-PW. Mack daddy wedge 50 and Sure out SW. Odyssey putter. Countless towels and gloves. No wonder I need a trolley ?

When I looked at my old 3 wood most of the strike marks were in the heel.
So good advice for me but we’re all different.
My irons are 1* upright so bit of a surprise
Works though.
Must be the shaft toe down with my swing speed.

Top end of my bag consists of a Ping G410 driver, G25 three and five woods. I can hit the 3 wood off the fairway as it has a relatively low profile and the 5 wood also good from the fairway but also some of our longer par 3's into the wind in winter and with the air colder. Got a 3 hybrid, a Ping G25 but swapped out the longer irons for G400 4 and 5 hybrids (22 and 26 degree lofts). Feel I have a lot of choice at the top end to suit most situations

Now I'm carrying for the rest of the winter, I've dropped my 5 and 6 irons. So I'm carrying a driver, 3 & 5 wood, 3 & 4 hybrids, 7-PW, 50* and 58* wedges and putter. I might ditch the 5 wood and 50* as I rarely use them at the moment.

Driver - 10 degree G400 sft , shaft change so we will see.
5 wood callaway rogue, eBay purchase longer than normal and fat non taper grip ( I changed everything to these after I used this)
7 wood bespoke build Bridgestone J33 head and slightly longer than normal shaft.
4 hybrid Adams Speed thing that is also quite old.
5 -PW
52,56 (60 dropped it’s just ballast in the winter)
Putter - white fang odyssey thing

As per my sig, only new entry recently is my new O-Works putter, normally an Oddy 2 ball fan but scratching the blade itch as it's been years. First game out at the weekend and signs were good :D .

I'm currently carrying and working on my irons. So I've got a driver, 4 to U, 54*sw and a putter. I'm considering switching between dropping the odds and evens.
