Got new woods this year, had a gapping session and fitting. I don’t really hit the 3Wood much further than the 5wood. I strike the 5 wood better, straighter, so went with that.

Took my 7W out the bag, took it to the range and questioned everything but I know the mats are too forgiving so it stays out atm.

my bag:
love my new driver, Titleist TS1
GAPR Hi 5 hybrid and Sim max 4h
cleveland launcher 6-pw
52/56 vokey
spider.

I don't really need anything more than 11 clubs. I could probably drop either the 6i or 5h because its similar distances.

but am now demoing a Ping G410 19 degree hybrid that I think will replace my 3 wood. May even get another one in 22 degrees

In my experience that is a bit too small of a gap.

One of my matched set of 3 came with that gapping and I ended up ditching the middle one of the 3.

If I could get my old Persimmon wood re-shafted with an senior shaft then that would be in my bag again.

Wow

The pros that know how to whip a wooden head on to shaft must be rare beasts now.

I used to play with an expro who carried persimmon fairways for years. One day on the 9th hole the head one of them spilt apart. He was still crying when we said our goodbyes on the 18th.

Absolutely not Ser ?, you are neither Mr Ping nor his self-acclaimed new persona, CaptainHook.
Ahh I see - no worries then :)

I was thinking about my set, and the fact the my driver and I have long separated, and 6i, 8i are pristine and lob wedge only used at the range. 5w is used but often it’s a toss up with the 4h (lofted down).
So realistically I could just use 4h, 5i, 7i, 9i, PW, GW, SW putter - total 8 clubs. Sort of my go to clubs. The rest are there just ... because they have always been there. Like my 10 extra balls, extra bag of tees, aspirin, etc.

Do most people use all 13-14 clubs regularly, or are some extra ballast in the bag?
I use all of mine at one time or another. Some of them only once or twice a round of course. Just sort of depends where you end up. On a short course in summer the longer ones wouldn't get used as much, but in winter they all do. I could get by with less clubs but as you're allowed 14 you might as well bring them just in case.

Do the 5 club when wanting a quick round, its easier carrying a pencil bag. Find that during a round with all the clubs in a trolley can slow you down, and you end up not using them all.
Still use the v-easy on the range Bob.

Driver (TS1), 3 & 5 woods (Cobra Speedbacks). All new, haven't even had a practice swing with them yet. Will be tremendous fun 1st time out with them I guess....
Irons 4-AW Taylormade RSi 1's. Love 'em.
Have tried hybrids, can't hit them for love nor money. Love sweeping my 4 iron away (when I'm swinging reasonably well).
