Was looking forward to the start of the new season so that i could get the handicap moving in the right direction

Despite the course being pretty dry they still have us playing preferred lies so the comps so far have been non qualyfying.

Looking back through my cards since the start of march and ive played 9 rounds and have scored > than 40 points in 7 of them!!! including a ridiculous 46 points last time out....

Someone cut me please!!!!!

Patience chap it will happen.... You are playing well, when the comps start you'll surely get cut and cut quickly by the way you're shooting, in the meantime can you put in supplementary cards (not sure what the rule is for these) or play on an away course that would qualify for h/c purposes?

Submit your cards if you want to be cut my mate has submitted cards and requested he be cut to 20 from 23. His game has just come together over the last 3 months and is turning into a great golfer. He is fed up with people calling him a bandit, even though he is not trying to keep his handicap high, he just has not had chance to get it cut.

All our comps have been qualifiers throughout the winter even with preferred lies. Is it not normal that this happens?

I emailed the general manager this morning to ask when qualyfying would begin and he told me not til we stop playing preferred lies so its weather dependant.

All my cards have been submitted so they can see the scores. Im racking up quite a bit in pro shop vouchers at the moment lol.

All ours count for handicap purposes too and we have preferred lies. Dont see why they wouldnt?

For me, whilst it would be nice to be lower, and I am generally playing under my handicap most rounds, I want to do it properly, rather than ask for it to be lowered. You can build on something then and it shows your continual improvement.

Playing preferred lies not exclude a competition from being handicap qualifying.

Either there's another reason OR they are unaware of the CONGU guidelines OR they just don't want them to be and are making stuff up.

But surely as you say CONGU "Guidelines" not rules, so I guess it's the clubs choice as to whether they are qualifying comps or not.

I'm glad they are as it makes the winter months more interesting.

pro's play for serious money on preferred lies, my clubs last 3 comps are all preferred lies and all counting down or up

Yes, exactly, but I got the impression that the OP's club are using it as the reason for them not being qualifiers as if they have no choice.

Oh ok, sorry I misunderstood your message.

That's a very good point though and surely OP if you were to request a handicap review there would a valid argument for this.

The managers email gave me the impression that they werent allowed to alter the handicaps.

"Handicapping starts when preferred lies stops. So it depends on the weather and the course"

Do people often ask for reviews? i thought the club reviewed them each year themselves??
Like an earlier poster i like the idea of earning a cut through competition and seeing it come down gradually but it gets am little embarassing some weeks when it all clicks and you post a silly score. (shot a net 59 on sunday)

No they should be able to review it, I'd ask, at the very least if they don't cut you and you wallop everyone in the first medal no one can shout "Bandito!", you've improved massively and if you ask and get refused at least you tried to do the right thing

Cant understand this at all.
We have had 8 comps already[all qualifiers]
All prefered lies, and i have had four small cuts.
I know your desperate to be cut[so its definately not you]
but i dont think what your club is doing is right.
No wonder the word Bandit is used.

If you're playing the course within 100yds of it's measured length and on proper greens then there is no reason to not play qualifiers and indeed clubs are positively encouraged to play qualifiers. Not doing so isn't against the rules per se but I would be asking your course manager to explain why they aren't qualifiers, politely pointing out that preferred lies is not a reason not to play qualifiers.

We have only had 2 weeks back at the full length one of which was a 4ball comp so dont think it would have been qual anyway?? First medal is this weekend so ill see how that goes before asking. Dont want ot ask and then make a fool out of myself with a net 80 or something..

The length is most likely the reason for non-qualifiers then (and might explain some of your scores :D) Might be worth asking if the medal will be a qualifier as there is no reason why it shouldn't be and they need to declare the status before play starts anyway.

No doubt it explains some of the scores. I had 5 rounds in a row greater than 40 points and then the first day it switched back to full length i had 34 points but since then ive had 38, 41 and 46.

The 46 was ridiculous tho, had a few birdies including a chip in.
