Mines a bit of a mishmash of your choices.

I like to play for the enjoyment of it whilst attempting to get my handicap as low as possible, hopefully picking up some medals/honours on the way along whilst meeting new and like minded people playing various courses across the country.

I went for social games with mates, purely because I'm not currently a member at any club and do not have an official handicap, therefore competitions, open, and representing a club do not apply.

That written should circumstances change and I do become a member, get a handicap, I will enter comps.

Single figure handicap. That's my goal, when I get there I will re-evaluate.
Couldn't give a stuff about winning comps, though I have to admit to getting a buzz when I entered my scores and saw myself up there on the leader board, til the afternoon lot came in...

You missed to have fun.
I play in club matches, medals, board comps, socially and a few opens but the main reason for playing is to have fun and enjoy the game. It's a philosophy that is working well so far this year with two handicap cuts and being placed in all bar one comp this year with a couple of wins thrown in for good measure.

Social games. What other reason is there to play golf? Why would your ambition be to get your name on a board in the clubhouse?

At the moment mine's to get my handicap as low as possible, maybe this is why I'm playing so badly and not enjoying it as much as I should.

The next time this comes up I will make sure my focus has changed I'll tick the new box *Just for the fun of it"

What is it with these board comps it must be an English thing, most clubs in Scotland only have the Club Champions name on a board yet our English friends have one for every Saturday stableford and roll up. What is it with getting your name on a bit of plywood ???????????

Handicap reduction for me, if you win then it's a bonus.

 My mates still play football but I've made some new really good friends at my club who I enjoy having a knock with. FUN!

For those who only want to get handicap reductions or win tournaments then guess what.

You need to enjoy it first! Fun is the biggest factor and should be at the top of everyone's list.

(its only taken my 20 years to realise this!)
