Member of 2 clubs

I’ve been contemplating a country membership on a second course just because of the value for money up here, for example Brora is just under 400 quid and that gets you reciprocals on some other cracking links aswell as 3 rounds per year on Royal Dornoch.
It’s a few hours drive for me but even if managing say 8/10 rounds per year would be good value for money. Probably better in winter too with my own course being parkland/winter greens/mats off fairways etc.
But then I think I’m £1300 fees at my own place so it is a lot.

Read the small print, you only get the Dornoch reciprocals with a full membership, not with the country one. I was looking at it recently with the same thoughts. There’s only £100 difference between the two, even at full whack, the three rounds make it value for money

In what way?

As a member at Blairgowrie I have a reciprocal with Lundin and I also know a few members, so have had the opportunity to play it many times. The course is really good and always presented in great condition, apart from the holes to the north of the old railway line which are just not "links" in my opinion. The clubhouse is top quality, as is the pro shop, and the practice facilities are great.

Leven Links, to me, is more of a traditional Links and has the better layout of the two, with split fairways and a fantastic finishing hole. The greens are excellent and bunkers can be penal. There are two clubs at Leven, Leven Golfing Society (Which I am a member of) and Leven Thistle Golf Club, both of which, in my opinion, are more down to earth and friendlier than Lundin Links which is more "elite".

Membership costs are also a consideration. Currently, Lundin is £796 a year plus a £1035 joining fee and no apparent discount for senior or country membership. There also appears to be a short waiting list for membership. Leven Golfing Society is £690 for full membership or £552 for senior/country membership, which is what I fall into, and no waiting list.

I stay just up the hill from Leven. Should arrange a game. As a member at Ladybank I also get reciprocals at Lundin so could play there, or happy to play Leven or Ladybank.

I'm due a trip up that way to play a few "Ls" Just had a trip in March to Kittocks etc cancelled as they will still be on mats.

Leven Links Golf Trust manage and maintain the course whilst the two clubs play on the same course yet maintain their own identities and traditions. Booking is also run by the Links Trust as per any member's club. Each clubhouse is run and maintained by each club and does incur quite an expense although there are discussions ongoing regarding the merging of clubs, but the legalities of how to divide assets such as properties and finances will be a major legal problem so might never happen.

The reminds me. I have an American friend who is an overseas member of about 10 UK courses. Comes over twice a year. Latest join? Aberdovey £154 a year if your live overseas!

When I retire I'll likely have double digits.

I told one of my friends living in Germany he should join Aberdovey last month. Has to be the best value of any membership, cheaper than a day ticket.

Sorry was saying I'll have to call my buddy out because he implied he went with a full membership vs country for voting rights and a love for the club. I'd wager it's because of the reciprocal benefits, although he does have a true love for the place.

Sat ocasional 18 holes on a sandbelt course
Sun 18 holes

+ afternoon rounds on your main course
+ evening practice on your second course several nights a week

Funny thing is I work still too.

Member of two clubs, one is a heathland course and the other is a parkland course.
The parkland course is approximately a 5-10 min drive, the heathland is a 25 min drive.
