Not if it's just pick, clean and place all year. Simplest solution.
Why ?
You don’t need pick and clean and place in the summer

It would remove skill from the game i think. Shots like being up against the collar and that sort of of thing. People would just place away from it.Not if it's just pick, clean and place all year. Simplest solution.
Not being funny but you've literally referred to it as "preferred lies" and then said it's not about having a nice lie??Isn't preferred lies more about cleaning mud off the ball than giving yourself a nice lie?
Asking, not telling by the way - I don't know.
And good luck finding a nice lie within 6 inches of one of my massive divots.
Why not?Why ?

forever....There's no requirement to stop people moaning...
Let them moan![]()
Also said I didn't know. Not being funny but you've literally referred to it as "preferred lies" and then said it's not about having a nice lie??![]()
Why not?
The why is because it would stop people moaning about having to play from divots, obviously. And it's not compulsory to pick, clean and place every shot just because it's available. 4 times out of 5 you probably wouldn't touch it anyway. It would just be an option.
Or they'd stop making the divots worse by having to hit out of them?It is frustrating to end up in a divot but it doesn’t happen that often.
I wonder how terrible fairways would look (especially in landing zones) if we had this rule as perhaps nobody would bother replacing divots.
My number one use of pick and place is to perch my ball up on a little tuft of grass when I'm hitting a fairway wood I think. Also said I didn't know.
Pretty sure the main benefit for me is wiping mud off the ball. Anywhere within 6 inches will be just as crappy as where it landed where I play golf.
The trick is never holding an expectation that your ball will end up where you’d like it or as you’d like it.Also part of the skill of the sport - playing a good tee shot to hit the fairway and get a good lie for your second shot.![]()
This isn't nature though - it's some idiot who played the course before you who can't replace a divot! If you land on a leaf or a twig or whatever that's all fine. This is why SIM golf will take over, people are becoming less and less able to cope with the vagaries of nature and life, everything must be perfect.
