If they changed the rule to a maximum 13 clubs (or if you don’t carry 14 now then a max of 1 less that what you do carry) what do you drop and how much will it be missed… or do you do a complete overhaul

This is for chat and is hypothetical, so replies saying they’d never do it because xyz, aren’t necessary

I’m still pondering my choice, initially thought 3w since I can get 4iron to similar but did also think about sacrificing SW relying on GW for chips/bunkers… choice still to be made… or if my ocd would cope with the gap then 7iron is probably my least used 🤔 I wouldn't redo the whole set-up

My 3 wood is on the way out, I hardly ever use it. The 5 wood goes just as far. I need to do some gapping to work out what to replace it with.

From what is currently in my bag it would be 5 wood. Only reason being I have a 3 wood and a hybrid that between them could cover the gap and it’s not a club I hit very often.

Could lose a wedge easy enough, got a 48 that came with the set but doesn't really get used much.

I currently use a 3 wood, 5/7 wood, hybrid set-up. So that could be condensed into two clubs pretty easily. I'd probably just use one wood that's sort of 4 wood loft (around 17 degrees), and then change my current hybrid for one that's a couple of degrees stronger (around 21°).

I only have 13 clubs and that is with an extra club that doesn't get much use that often. I reckon most of us would do better with less clubs in the bag as I am sure some of them will overlap and cause us to think of which one to us.

My Driver is my worst club (least reliable) in the bag, I'm pretty sure the 3 wood goes almost as far. I don't think my handicap would change much if I left the driver out.

Depends where I’m playing. If it’s a really tight course, it might be my driver. If it’s a really long course with wide open fairways, it might be a 3 wood. I might look at the length of the par 3’s, and drop the 3 and or 4 iron. If it’s blowing a howling gale it might be the 56* wedge.

I've just counted and I only have 11 in my bag, I have space 😂 . I've recently taken out my 60° wedge and a hybrid that was a duplicate for another club so I have done this very process.

It's quite cathartic, nice to have space.

Either 3/5 wood or a wedge. I only have so many wedges because you can have 14 clubs, one could easily be dropped and I doubt I'd miss it.

A long club. Anyone playing at my mid-high handicap level who thinks they need a 180, 190 and 200 yard club is fantasising about their skills.
But I generally only carry 1 club between driver and 7-iron anyway, so I've already followed my suggestion.

When I go on holiday I often take a carry bag with me with fewer clubs. Difficult to say how it affects my scoring on unfamiliar courses but I feel I'm a bit worse.

If I had to do it permanently being a bit pedantic I would probably have a chat with the pro to see what they thought, maybe drop a wedge and adjust the lofts of the others to get even gapping.

Oh and then start thinning it to prove that its the player not the equipment.

13 club set up ...

Driver and 16° wood
Irons 2-SW (18° to 58°) or specifically 18, 21, 24, 28, 32, 36, 41, 46, 52, 58.
Putter

But retaining the option to put a 20° hybrid instead of the 2-iron.

I've been considering doing something along these lines. 3 wood is very old so been toying with replacing and don't use 5 wood much so the plan is to get a weak lofted 3 wood to cover both as they aren't used much and as has been said above don't need so many clubs at the top end.

Would leave me with Dr, 3w, 7w, hybrid, 6-Aw, 56 (or other wedge) and a putter - 12 clubs
