What constitutes strong winds for a golfer?!?!

Spare a thought for Rick today, trying to play Littlestone in the hurricane!
I've just seen a message from a couple of players who won't get the because of the QE2 bridge being shut because of the wind............so at least he won't be last!!! ;) :)
I did spare a thought for him, and for some reason I started sniggering.

I didn't think it was that bad yesterday, 3 or 4 club wind at Nairn on the front 9 into the wind, played off the white which were on the blue boxes for some reason!!

didn't use an iron for a 2nd shot on the front 9:( down wind was a birdie barrage

I take that back I played at Turnberry (kintyre course) and it was unbelievable. Even when putting the wind was moving the ball , bags and carts were knocked over , benches upside down , but I loved it

a load of the Scottish contingent played Glasgow Gailes on Sunday, wouldn't say i loved that:rofl::rofl:

90* left to right wind, in the rough on the R/H/S of the fairway with about 150yds to the green, I took a 6 iron and ripped it at about 20-25* right to left aiming to land it about 10yds left of the green and the wind still carried it about 10yds right of the green !...

I'm a Greenkeeper at a local club and me and a work mate decided to take 5 and bang a few old balls onto the green, we always keep a selection of old clubs (6 iron, pitching wedge, 3 wood that sorta thing) in the work truck for such occasions, we do a little closest to the green, closest to the pin comp all in the name of fun !...

get out there! it's fun and a challenge!

Went to the range instead. I was the only fool there! Full shot with a 60* wedge was just making 30 yds. It was hilarious. Strangely enough I was striking the ball really well even with the wind noise sounding like a freight train in my lug holes. I did learn that a well struck shot is not really affected by a side wind too much. It blows off course yes, but not by a huge amount. Now introduce a little side spin on that ball and wow, a bad shot becomes a whole lot worse!

I set off to the course three times today to practice and each time I turned back. Will go out in wind and rain but no way was I going out in the hail we had:eek:

The outward 9 at Silloth a few years ago with the NW and Scottish boys was a crazy day, spoke to the clubs captain afterwards and he said it was borderline closing as they were a gale force not a wind

Falklands is extremely windy, punches you by surprise and can knock you down easily, but with all that said, Saturday in our 1st medal off the very back stones was mental, very very windy, driving rain intermittently and dam right impossible to choose the right club at times, not sure what you learn from playing in these conditions :mmm:

Mainly you learn whether or not you should have paid more for your waterproofs :D

0-10 - zero wind
10-20 - wee breeze
20-30 - now it's got my attention
30-40 - please don't start raining as well
40-50 - why are we doing this?
50-60 - I've started so I'll finish even if it kills me
60-70 - where's the lifeboat....

Just need to have this scale added to the TV weather forecast - it should put the fair weather golfers right!!!

Was going to practice last night but no point if the ball is going to move 15-20 yards in the air despite my best efforts. I'm trying tomorrow with better conditions predicted. Some hefty debris on the road yesterday and even today

The boy done good this morning!!!
Hi Darren, where did you see the results?

Well all,I can say is ....wow!!!!!! Never, ever played in conditions like it!

It was brutal......2 rounds at Littlestone and 2 rounds at North Forleland in a combined 72 hole comp.

I haven't seen all the official results yet, but I won the morning nett comp at North Foreland and did OK in the Pm round at Littlestone......

I think there were around 75 competitors and I reckon I came something like 12th overall in the 72 hole scratch comp and must have come in the top 3 in the 72 hole nett comp.........Reductions only over all 4 rounds.

Should have copped some decent OOM points .......

My highlight was shooting the same gross score as the plus 3 handicapper.......
