So the forum meet this weekend has winds set to be 30mph which I am gathering is pretty strong. I was also going to go for a hit tomorrow morning which looks like 22-25mph?

What would other golfers constitute as a strong wind? I am guessing this will vary depending where you live.... 30mph just a breeze to the highlanders :D

I have no concept of wind strength since I'm new to golf so never really took notice until now so quite interested in what others find "playable" or stay in the hoose wind.

0-10 - zero wind
10-20 - wee breeze
20-30 - now it's got my attention
30-40 - please don't start raining as well
40-50 - why are we doing this?
50-60 - I've started so I'll finish even if it kills me
60-70 - where's the lifeboat....

30 mph is more than pretty strong. It's around 7 on the beaufort scale and generally classified as a "moderate gale"

Once you reach 20mph it stops being fun for me. High teens is pushing it but 20 definitely ruins a game. I should add, I don't carry a measuring device around with me. I am going off wind speeds given by forecasters or websites on a particular day.

I have played in windier conditions, I am in the NE, but it takes all of the fun out of the game and it becomes a slog.

I tend to agree, cant wait to drive 2.5hrs sunday morning for 36 holes in the rain and 25mph winds on a course thats high up on the cliffs!!

Drive4Show is also playing, bet he cant wait either!

its forecast for 40mph Saturday, but you're playing Sunday aren't you? Sunday's forecast is much better, Heavy showers and only gusts up to 25mph. Doddle.

Anything with gusts above 50mph for me. Although yesterday the wind was strong enough at times to blow my hat off mid swing and the balls were moving on some greens.

Only time ours has been closed this year has been due to dangerous winds.

play in all sorts, but we have wind most days up here, prob play 4 or 5 times a year with no wind.

Last weekend it was almost a 5 club wind on the front 9, was about 30 mph i think...

worse was a game a Cullen 3 years ago in 80 -100 gusts.. was quite funny, esp when i took a driver on a par 3 and the ball ended back in front of me on the tee and watching mine and my playing partners carry bags get blown 100 yards down the fairway;)

its Ok as long as its not raining as well that really is a pain.

Just enjoy a laugh about it

A few of us from the NE society played Silloth a year or so back, on the Saturday it was windy, driver from an elevated tee on a short par 3 windy. On the Sunday we had added rain, which was coming in horizontal.

Just for giggles, I hit a 6 iron off the tee into the wind, it ballooned up high and landed (lost) in the cabbage behind the tee box.

worst thing about playing in the wind? you cant light a fag, and if you eventually do, it's down to the butt in 2 drags:(

When your tee shot ends up behind you (it did happen)

Which is exactly what happens when playjng around MPA in Falklands - not seen winds that strong in the UK
