What constitutes strong winds for a golfer?!?!

No that's next weekend, shouldn't really say as there is a very hospitable member on here who is always happy to sign people on, don't want it to sound as if I'm slagging off his course as that's not the case. Course was excellent, just the setup was at fault.

Gotcha ;)

I know a number of people who have moved from that course recently. Again, nothing to do with the actual course, more to do with how it is run - shame.

The most frustrating thing is my ball striking was pretty good, I hit 14/14 fairways. New shaft in my driver worked well :D

The strongest wind I've ever played in was @ St Enedoc one year, half the field struggled to reach the fairway on the 1st hole.

Approx 4 club wind - 150yds was a balls out 3i. It's a real test of ball striking quality once the wind gets up - every tiny miss is punished x10.

Very draining after a while

Played yesterday and today and can officially say I really don't like playing in strong winds and just don't have the skills to adapt my game. I tend to hit a high ball and today saw one drive kind of change trajectory - those standing at the side said it literally went backwards!

Today was at Newmarket Links which isn't especially exposed but fully laden electric trollies were blown all over the place. My lightweight sun mountain with a wide wheel base stayed upright throughout - something to take from the day :-)

Gutting. At least you know it's in there and next time you play in far better conditions you can go out with confidence. I always find playing in the wind and rain much more tiring mentally and physically (not sure why about the latter)

At Woodhall yesterday on the Bracken, 16th hole (I think it is 16th), a par 3 was 157 yards to the flag from an elevated tee, saw both of my F.C.'s come up short of the green with 3 woods........ Quickly swapped the 5 iron I was holding for a 3!

Organisers of the mid-am at Littlestone Tuesday are mentioning we might play off the whites instead of blues after some of them practiced today and described some of the fairways as "un-reachable" these are the really low guys as well.......:o

Quite windy at ours today in the swindle....played off the silvers and very happy with my game- won the front 9 with 18 points.....then had 6 straight blobs on the back 9 and came back with 4 points....:o

..............And mine wasn't the lowest back 9 score!!

To put it in perspective how difficult it was today, I played the day before off the championship tees in a strong wind and shot 3 over gross on the back 9..... ( equivelant to 19 points)

I played 1.5holes in the afternoon before walking in, hence not seeing you. Seemed as though they were calling it off as I was coming in!

Golf course was in fantastic condition and the greens were exceptional but as Gordon mentioned just not appropriate.

Very strong winds on the hill yesterday at Hindhead. Horizontal rain t'boot! Good round in the 70s but opposition had a 10ft for the win on the 18th....turned into a losing 3 jab!:D:whoo:

Planned my first evening outing for 9 holes tomorrow with a couple of mates but just seen gusts up to 58 mph are on the forecast.

Hmmmm can't see anyone venturing out so its either a lone round or a sociable drink.

I played Perranporth in 30mph winds. Not fun. It was not only hard to play golf but also hard to walk through it.
As I approached the short par 3 on the way out I said to myself 'if this doesn't finish on the green I am walking in a 9', I almost holed it for my first ever hole in one and completed the course.

I will now avoid anything over 20mph.

Last night's winds around here were clocked at 60mph +. They are forecast to be just as strong today :o ..

This is what last nights winds did to a 60ft tall tree in my garden.. It's 12" thick where it snapped ......

I'd say that it was a bit too windy to play... :D

Ironically enough, the shed that it destroyed contains all the tools necessary to chop it up. The 2 sheds that it missed are full of chopped down trees for the fire.. Now you tell me that trees aren't intelligent... :D

Spare a thought for Rick today, trying to play Littlestone in the hurricane!
I've just seen a message from a couple of players who won't get the because of the QE2 bridge being shut because of the wind............so at least he won't be last!!! ;) :)
