Transgender.....

IS the correct answer, When I was younger there was no resource that I was aware of and "a man in a dress" was something to be joked about (still is to a smaller degree) It wasn't until the advent of the internet that I was able to understand more about myself and the options available to me.

Gender reassignment surgery is available on the NHS, after many checks and balances and several years of attending clinics under mental health trusts.
I know people who have spent many thousands of pounds on other procedures that felt they needed as well, to have to make them more presentable and acceptable.

It is not something you do on a whim.

I admire your bravery and courage to say that on a public forum where, lets be honest, some of the "banter" can be inconsiderate and totally unpleasant.

To be fair BM, one of my first posts on the forum was asking people's opinions on me joining a ladies section. People on here have been overwhelmingly positive.

When Louise first joined the forum ( i only used to read back then ) she went beyond brave and started a great thread explaining her circumstances which showed a strong character and courage and it was great to see a positive and thoughtful reaction from the forum.

This forum is great 99% of the time - ask a question both golf and non golf related and you will always get a helpful answer from someone. This place reminds me a bit like Cheers - somewhere everyone knows your name. I have no doubt that 99.9% of the forum would welcome any forum member to their course if they were in the area

Apologies then. Until your post today, I had no idea, so to me today it was both brave and courageous.

I used to work with a someone who is transgender, i work in the oil industry in cnc machine factory so to have someone who one day was a guy then turn up the next set of shifts dressed as a women was surreal. I know he gave up a lot to to be who he wanted to be and only lasted a few months after that as he had to move away.

See it on a semi-regular basis at the hospital. Some have gone through full gender realignment and others make no efforts to disguise their stubble etc. It's a very difficult area and something I'm ill equipped to discuss fully. I simply try and treat everyone in a simple, fair manner as I'd hoped to be treated. That's applicable across the board. not just this subject but race & religion. Sometimes, as I have found, those that you dismiss merely on stereotypical pre-conceptions can be the most wonderful and interesting people to spend time with

I remember suggesting you keep a low profile, and not win every comp you enter. You didn't listen to me did you.;)
