Don't get me started on being expected to tip extra for a £13 standard man's haircut that takes 10 minutes... ?‍♂️
I never understood that. If you have a meal, you tip if the service is good, because the bill pays for the food, the good service is extra, that makes some sense. If you have a haircut, you pay for the haircut, and then add a tip.. for the haircut? I don't really get it. Surely if he does a bad job you should be getting a discount rather than the moral right to simply pay the amount that it costs and no extra. Really weird custom. I tip them anyway of course, because I don't want my ear sliced off next time I go back.

I don't get the food delivered. In these current Covid times you are basically taking food from someone who is another link in the chain and has potentially handled money from people who may unknowingly have the virus. If we want anything from a takeaway, I go and collect it myself. There are enough in my area close enough to make this practical. I'm not taking any chances with my families health.

This with one step further, we haven’t had a takeaway in over 12 months due to the possible risks.

I'd say it's as broad as it's long. One way you stay at home with your sanitizer at the ready while the extra person handles your food packages and money. The other way you go and stand in a room full of the expelled breath of an unknown number of strangers.

tbh, a takeaway has become a very rare treat for me. Probably only 2 or 3 in the last year. The selection in my village is a bit limited so that's why I was thinking of a delivery from slightly further away.

I dont tip unless I've had outstanding service - maybe not even once a year. (certainly not this year yet!)

Hate tipping culture in general though.

If you have ever worked in the food and drinks service industry you are likely to understand why tipping is an important source of income to those providing you with the service. And so with some insight we almost always will look to tip 15% unless we have a good reason to not do so.

We have issues with mandatory service charge and will always ask those serving us if tips given to them (we always tip cash if we can) they can keep or if they go into a pot.

We don't get much in the way of home delivery - we don't need to as we live in town - in truth I can't recall last time we did have home delivery and so can't recall if we tipped. I'm thinking we probably would but I'm thinking it would be less than our normal 15% - maybe a few quid.

We're not allowed into the takeaway. We have to stand outside and wait.

Then what? Are you handed your order? If so it's the same process as delivery as that driver will leave the food on the door step and step back

So it's still a chain

Yes, but a chain with one less link. See my comment in Post #65 ref the delivery driver/rider. I'm not stopping other people from getting deliveries. I'm just not doing it for the reasons as I've already stated.

As long as the delivery people follow the guidelines. I'm just taking one person out of the chain. And when collect, we have to stand outside and I keep well away from anyone else who may be there. It's all a matter of personal choice. I have two "at risk" people in the house so am ensuring I am as safe as possible.

Have to admit we would pick up delivery but we have a system of bath the twins then we place an order using app, phone etc whilst feeding them. They go bed whilst other daughter put to bed and food arrives shortly after

Stick to the same rules as outlined in the link I said so even if they didn't follow it the risk is so low

Get the food , remove all packaging playing up with a spoon for example

Then wash hands thoroughly

Pizza wouldn't eat out the box at the moment

Curry you remove the packaging anyways

But you get the idea

I don't use Uber Eats or Deliveroo as they're bad for the delivery person and the restaurant.
I get my delivered food from places that have their own delivery personnel and I tip very well.

How do you know these days? We order from restaurants directly sometimes to avoid the justeat fee for them so they make more cash and the same guy delivers it

Jesus, lockdowns were bad enough as it is, can't imagine I would have made it through without takeaways.

Different levels of worry tho isn't it

I know people who wipe their shopping, parcels aren't touched for 3 days etc

I'll just take the post.. open it then wash my hands ?‍♂️

People are different for it

There are days/weeks/months I could kill for a Dominoes, especially after running so much? but with 3, now 2 extremely vulnerable people in the house I get over it.

What if the barber gives you great service and you have some quality chat whilst he is cutting your hair? The product is either the meal or hair cut and the wages for waiter/barber are factored into the cost of the product, so just as much reason to tip one as the other.

I quite like my 30 mins of peace whilst getting a hair cut so don’t really engage in chat that much, but I go to the same person all of the time and he knows that so I generally round up and give him the change, which is only and extra pound

I shave my own head I have to admit I'm really pleased with it so have treated myself to something as a tip
