Tipping Etiquette

No, you said if you're on a budget and can't afford a tip you shouldn't be ordering a takeaway. I am saying that is a crazy statement.

As I said before if a £2 tip is going to set you over your budget and money is that tight you prob shouldn't be ordering take out and should just cook yourself.

Stand by a tip for delivery drivers

Same for cabbies, Uber , whoever .. if I'm paying cash they can keep the change .

Paying card more difficult

But if I'm ordering in especially at work I'll make sure everyone on the 9 person order throws in £1 for the guy.

It's not up to you to decide what other people should do with the £2 that is left over. When I purchase anything in life I look at the price and decide if I'm going to make a purchase. I don't assess what direction my Moral compass is pointing and contemplate the salary of the person delivering my food. When you buy a chocolate bar from your local corner shop for 80p do you wait for change?

Yes then it goes in the charity pot.

So £3.50 min fee minus 25% .. £2.60 min per delivery

Really don't see the issue with giving them a tip.

You know they don't just deliver one item and return back to base don't you? Hermes drivers have it much worse. Do you tip your hermes driver
The company paying piss poor wages is not our problem

Sorry for wanting to not be a complete tight wad and squirrel all my pennies away so the Uber man can just earn his agreed salary as he is clearly raking it in.

Get a grip

Get a grip? You're paying another man's salary whilst the company paying peanuts is laughing all the way to the bank. Yeh I'll get a grip by paying the amount advertised. I might me a tight wad but I don't need to pay a tip just to feel like a big man!!!!!

Why on earth are you objecting to others tipping delivery drivers? Seriously have a word with yourself

In my first point if you bother to get your head out your own backside for 2 mins I said the restaurants like the local Indian and Chinese who just send out one of their waiters (that's what my Indian does) it's free delivery over whatever. His wage isn't my business

If I want to tip him I will.

If your such a tight wad you can't bear to part with your cash fair enough

But please jog on

It's a whole crazy scene...

Someone delivers a parcel, no tip expected.
Someone delivers a parcel with hot food inside, should we tip?

Someone fixes your teeth, no tip.
Someone cuts your hair, tip?

Someone drives you from A to B on a bus, no tip.
Someone drives you from A to B in a smaller vehicle, should we tip?

You order food in Nando's, you pay for it and they tell you to sit down and they bring it, no tip.
You order food in a café, you sit down, they bring it and then you pay. Tip?

Nandos have a tip jar at the front same as a cafe

But good point there

Not quite. You have to do a Google search and check their salary. Then you have to decide if that person qualifies for your charity. If you then think they earn a low wage (based on your standards). You tip them. Usually to make you feel good about yourself though

Why on earth or you objecting to people who don't? It's not the law, it's not right or wrong. It's your choice! Hence the first post about other peoples views on tipping.

Hey if you want to be tight that's your call....

No skin off my nose ?

You tip 10% with a minimum of £5 in cash. Easiest round up to a full quid and usually in folding

Those delivery people rely on that to make money. The restaurants will give them rock all for the deliveries.

No skin of mine either just don't come moaning when the american model hits our country because all the restaurant owners realise they don't need to pay their staff because of us mugs. 20% on top of a meal!!!! Ouch

Yeah I think restaurant workers will be fine covered by a few laws and stuff.. bit over your head so I'll just leave the information there for you

Good night ?

Always tip the delivery man! Especially now with so many who’ve lost there jobs this last year, and having to be a delivery driver to make ends meet for the now forced couch potato nation.

I’m a big tipper, missus hates it but I’ve worn the shoes and had the empty wallet that comes with the serving the public.

Tipping is reserved for service above and beyond. However as far as fast food deliveries go I never tip them as I always collect it myself.

Judging by some of the comments on here that will earn me a special place in Hell for doing them out of a job. Well if that drives one of the moped maniacs off the road I’ll consider it a small price to pay for my public service.

Absolutely its everyone's choice. But whilst you're taking a stand against the company, the employee is on beans on toast. Don't have problem with what you choose, your choice. I want the guy to have sausage and bacon, not beans on toast.
