The Open qualifying...

So they're playing at Sunningdale and Tom Lewis is off to a flyer BUT The Open is played on a links course so surely qualifying should be on the same style course? Or have I missed something? It's not like there's a shortage of options...

Some players perform better on links than others because of the conditions. I'd have just thought you'd organise qualifying competition that replicated the main event...

GM just tweeted me back to say it's about having two courses and logistics which is fair enough but surprised there isn't a links alternative...

International final qualifying dont suppose the other IFQ events were on links courses?
The regional qualifying isnt either although most of the local final qualifying probaly is.
9 spots up for grabs and looking like you need to be under par over 36 holes to be in.

Any one know where to find a list of who is playing in Local Final Qualifying next week? It would be good to know if there were any big names to look out for.

But tiger, all or 99% of the regular tour competitions are on parkland/non links type courses so why have a specific test over links when the rest dont have to?

Regional Qualifying today so would have thought there won't be a list until after today's play is complete.

Got a few friends / people I know looking to qualify at different courses so keeping my eyes peeled on today's scoring

Ian, Regional qualifying is actually on today at 14 courses around the UK, those that qualify then go to 1 of the 4 local final qualifying venues so would expect the fields for local final qualifying will be sorted out late this week or early next

Changes from course to course, I guess depending on size / quality of field. Bucks has 17 spots whereas one of the others only had 6

great to see Mark Laskey shoot 64 at Abridge to get through, had the priviledge of playing a couple of pro-ams with him this winter and watched him at the Europro last week, hopefully he can get through local final qualifying now!

List for LFQ will be up by Wednesday, at the latest.

I believe that this is the last year that LFQ will be held on courses near the venue for The Open. Instead it will be played on 4 designated courses around GB. Shame that they are messing with the format, I also think that it was much better when the 36 holes were played over 2 days.

I think it is. It looks like there's an average of about 12 from each course to go through from this round which would give a final qualifying field of 150 ish which sounds about right?

Young 17 year old lad from our club in one of the last groups out. Top quality player.

Looking like 71 might make it through at Bucks so if he an put a decent round together has every chance of making it!
