The Cricket Thread

On a lighter note, and one of incredulity…

I’ve been reading Alan Knott’s biography. Knotty was one of my early cricketing heroes, and the first wicket keeper I saw play for England. Great character, an outstanding player including with the bat.

The incredulity; on one of the Ashes tours he played in there were 7 Test matches. It may well have happened on other tours but it’s a new one for me.

I was just about to post about this. Disgusting and discriminatory. I seriously hope this is not allowed to stand.
Can't see what could be done to stop it. I'm no expert on the draft process but surely all teams need to do is select other players and say the Pakistani players did not warrant selection (on ability etc.). in such a set up, each owner is free to pick who he wants and doesnt have to select anyone they don't want. The alternative would be to force all teams to have a Pakistani, a la some weird quota arrangement.

@SteveJay I guess, how do you ever prove discrimination? If a board of directors only has men, are they discriminating against women? Can you prove that or do you do just look at the numbers and realise that things don't add up?
The IPL won't allow their teams to pick Pakistanian players, and those IPL franchises that now own Hundred teams are doing the same.
I think it's disgusting and would suggest the only way fans can voice an opinion is to boycott going to watch them.
When the stands are empty and they aren't getting the money through the gate they will think again.

If something in World cricket isn't done to stop the BCCI cricket will die.

Why do England keep bowling Will Jacks? Got Pakistan on the ropes, going at around a run a ball, so they put Jacks on who goes for 27 off 2 overs - which is about the economy he has got all this tournament. Too many bad balls and nowhere near consistent enough to be bowling in an International team.

England desperately trying hard to lose this with some really stupid decision making.

They've got away with it but some of those batsmen need to have a look at themselves (obviously they won't 😡)

One of the guys I play with who played opening bat, once had Knott behind the stumps and Underwood bowling to him.....

New Zealand are always frustrating

They look so good as a team in all formats , cruise through group stages but then just seem to crumble at the final hurdle
You definitely went too soon there 😄

This tournament has had a few instances like this. You think the team batting first are in trouble but then it balances out once the opposition bat.

@Bunkermagnet as with all sports, the pros are just toying with us amateurs if we are ever lucky enough to play with them. At any time they can just step it up, particularly when they are world class, as they both were.

Great story to have in your locker for that guy 👍

He's wasnt a bad cricketter in his day. Played county level ;)

Also the matches today rather than being exciting are a waste of time and the results don’t matter.
That should never happen with the last group games.

I think if they had 4 groups of 4 in the first round, instead of 4 groups of 5, it would have been perfect.

It’s good to have some minnows capable of causing an upset eg Zimbabwe. But what did Canada and Namibia bring to the tournament?
