The Cricket Thread

Aha. Forgot the Blast stopped during August.
Has it not been the nature of modern cricket for ages though? So many international fixtures, central contracts, franchise tournaments as well as the usual domestic fixtures that the better players just have to make a decision as to what matters most to their career or bank balance.
Don't forget that 20 years ago the traditionalists were saying that Twenty20 was going to kill cricket.
When it comes to centralised contracts you expect players to be away for a lot of the summer - one of the good things about selectors ignoring Somerset is we do keep our top players - but years gone by there hasn’t been any ongoing white ball internationals so the ECB have released the players for the day which has been good

Also the international players contracts normally go until the end of August ( white ball ) because they go to other comps - with it being late those have gone now

I understand there is talk of next year having it done before the 100 which will help but it might mean issues for the One Day Cup

No one is required to buy both 🙄

Back to the actual cricket

Two big blows there losing TKC and TA 😢

Think unless Will has a big innings this total maybe too far out of reach
If it is not to try and sell more tops, can you give me a reason why they do it? Kids want the latest kits and if the club have 2 kits then the kids will pressurise their parents to buy them both.

Replica kits are not big business within the county scene and kids won’t be pressuring anyone , don’t confuse it with football

Any small amount of money coming in helps a county that doesn’t have a huge income

Good to see the inferiority complex is still strong 😂

Still absolutely amazed from having spent (my 3rd consecutive) Finals Day in Edgebaston - where Somerset came back from being well behind in the game twice. Brilliant innings from TKC then Smeed.
What a magnificent performance to hunt down that total in the Final - and even if Smeeeeeed didn't get his 100, the two most fitting players were there at the end: Captain Fantastic together with what is now County Cricket's supreme T20 finisher in Dickson.

Dickson got a special send-off with the fans singing his name throughout the presentation and having made him his own banner (see below). So did Green.

Oh, and re: "inferiority complex" There was a beautiful moment in the 18th over of the Final chase where the "Somerset la la la" chant started in the Hollies and went in waves across every stand in the ground which was (despite it being a 4-team tournament with two of those teams being "big" Test ground Counties) clearly well over 50% Somerset (clearly no drop in demand despite it being the 5th Finals Day in a row for us!). So not sure why you'd think there could be one when they're in the top 2 biggest Counties in terms of fan support as well as clearly being consistently the strongest T20 team in the country; by a distance. I'd say it's more pride in how far a team from a small County town punches above its weight having become properly embedded at the heart of the community. County cricket done right.

Oh, and I like having a batting and bowling shirt choice - means you can choose the better looking of the two kits to buy if you do want to buy one (clearly the batting shirt this year :D ). It's not like wanting or turning up in the correct home/away football shirt; absolutely no spectator is ripping off their top at change of innings to wear the "correct" kit for batting or bowling :D . I've never encountered anyone buying more than one, let alone buying their kids both 🤷‍♂️.
