When it comes to centralised contracts you expect players to be away for a lot of the summer - one of the good things about selectors ignoring Somerset is we do keep our top players - but years gone by there hasn’t been any ongoing white ball internationals so the ECB have released the players for the day which has been goodAha. Forgot the Blast stopped during August.
Has it not been the nature of modern cricket for ages though? So many international fixtures, central contracts, franchise tournaments as well as the usual domestic fixtures that the better players just have to make a decision as to what matters most to their career or bank balance.
Don't forget that 20 years ago the traditionalists were saying that Twenty20 was going to kill cricket.
Also the international players contracts normally go until the end of August ( white ball ) because they go to other comps - with it being late those have gone now
I understand there is talk of next year having it done before the 100 which will help but it might mean issues for the One Day Cup
