Agree with the infra bit. Surely, councils who introduce LEZ, etc should be forced to use the money generated for encouraging public transport, EV charging etc. Bristol (local to me so good example) has had a LEZ for a few years and in that time the bus routes have also been slashed so what is the LEZ money going to?

All ulez money is ring fenced into investment in improving air quality and transport in those areas

What is there to spend money on to improve air quality? If there are less polluting vehicles, then surely the air quality is better?

Plenty of protects, they can use the money for rail grinding for example, which reduces the friction on the tube rails and stops emissions based on braking from that . That's high

Then you can invest in lower emissions buses

All kinds of things

No tubes in Bristol - despite the last mayor wanting them as a vanity project! And buses are being cut so not sure what they are using the money for

Had a good laugh at the track on Sunday, last track day of the year by the looks of it.

My mate normally brings his C63 Black but on Sunday he brought his i4 M50 to see how it fared. Great fun and a decent car round the track when the battery is above 50%. Damn quick on the drags, 3.7sec 0-60 was his fastest recorded (compared to 4.0 in my M340).

Smacked us both off the line (other mate has an RS4 Avant), we caught him up when getting to the top end though, it's like it didn't want to hit near the limiter speed.

His only complaint, and completely self inflicted, was having to stay for about an hour to put enough charge in to get home where me and our other mate just filled up from a couple of 20L jerry cans. I did say to him to watch how much charge he was using, it goes down quick when you are booting the metals out of it.

It was just an example. And ULEZ is different from LEZ whilst the same things ULEZ is almost like a brand. It's only in London .

I'm confused. Why does the state of charge change the car's performance?
It's not like an ICE car when a nearly empty tank means it's lighter and quicker.
Surely an EV's weight stays constant regardless?

No idea but the ability to get top performance wasn’t there as evidenced in the timings.

With the battery at 30% his 0-60 time was 4.1sec. Coincidence? No clue. Lap times also down by 2-3 seconds towards the end. Coincidence? Could be.

Could be some sort of active power management system maximising range over performance, again no idea.

The money is probably used for subsidising e-scooters or shutting down high streets or however they term it - quiet traffic zones or something.

Whatever, they have slashed buses and effectively done the opposite of what they promised.

Although the tube project was really quite feasible as it would only have cost about £18 billion 🤣.

There is a YouTube video of someone taking a performance Tesla (might have been a model S) around the Nurburgring. This thing was amazing, but the single lap drained like 70% of the battery the way he was hammering it.

In fairness, my petrol level dropped probably just as fast as his battery did. Kicking the tetes out of it will drain the fuel no matter what. 70% in one lap is a bit mad. We did seven full laps and about 8 or 9 drags. I had just under a full tank and when finished had about a quarter, at one point I was getting 4mpg 😬

Crikey I hope Bristol council isn't funding e-scooters. When I was driving through the city centre one evening about 15 months ago, the e-scooters were zipping around all over the place, ignoring red lights and generally putting their own lives at risk. It was the most stressful driving experience I can remember for decades.

I think there’s an assumption that motorists can’t make safe judgement calls both e scooter and bikes can.

You shouldn’t be seeing e-scooter riders at night at all. That because they usually dressed like ninjas, and other than bikes they don’t have any lights at a useful observable hight.

I am all for e-scooters, but they should not be on roads. In my opinion they should be slower and on bike lanes or pavement.
And they need to look after themselves, not relying on others guessing they are there.

I was reading a report this week on the web that said the government are looking at legalising private e-scooters. At the current time, in trial areas, you are supposed to have a provisional/full driving licence and insurance. I wonder how many have insurance?
As to where they should be used, in an ideal world it would be cycle lanes which are completely separate from roads and pavements - but this will never happen.

I agree on this, twice in the last fortnight I’ve been in the city and getting to my next appointments had been a breeze on a lime. Just stuck to the cycle lanes.

If used for the intended purpose they were an ideal solution for cheap travel around city centres or to/from train stations for city commuters but unfortunately the youth screwed the pooch … again!

Will never happen! They have confiscated and crushed so many it would be a complete 180* stance.

Id imagine the youth have plenty of complaints to make about old golfers too😂 and TBF I see many people of varying age zipping about on e-scooters

I think it's their visibility that is the issue. Have a look at your coat rack, and what you wear when you are a pedestrian. Ours are all black and grey, 'no' grown up is wearing bright bold colours at the time. We make a point to get junior a red jacket.
As a pedestrian we are fine, we use pavements, we look when we cross traffic, ... .

Now, for riding on pavement they are just too fast. And a lot of people riding them ...

The last place they should be is on the pavement, at least the law has got this bit right.
