Is there anything you won't say in order to try and be right 😅
He's actually right. Anything less than 3 years old won't belch out black smoke unless it has a serious problem and it is likely to be covered by warranty anyway. Anything over 3 years old will fail an MOT so it won't be on the road any longer than 12 months.

Politically, by any party, Diesel always seems to be the 1st thing on the chopping board. Not just the UK, check over the other side of the north sea to see the same.
Would you want to risk buying a car that might be 'banned' (taxed higher/ ULEZ, ... ) by some cities?

I still don't understand what happens in Paris with parking. Whatever that is, it might go elsewhere as well.
Get a small car that runs on fairy dust, just to be save.

This is the exact reason my mate got an EV, they have a petrol (I think) other car but they live round my way (ulez) and just wanted a car that will be fine for a long time

Most driving enthusiasts prefer the control and driving experience you get from a manual car.

An argument often heard but one I have never agreed with and probably said by a lot who never driven an automatic in the first instance

I have driven automatics, from choice, since my late 20s. I have never had one where I would have complained about the lack of control and some where I would never have complained about relative performance.

Some of the later ones have had the option to use as a clutchless manual (one with paddle controls) tried one or twice but never bothered with again.

TBH. since Euro 6 was the requirement for Diesel to be ULEZ free in London, I have only seen 2 smoking diesels. 1 was an old black cab (as theyre exempt for too long) and 1 was a Range Rover.

Not sure you have the same understanding of control as someone that may drive enthusiastically. They may want to hold a low gear through a bend to get maximum acceleration out of it which is very different to 'being in control' driving normally through a bend. Or having the car in a low gear to overtake rather than wait for an auto to kick down.

Rarely drive mine in “full auto” mode, use the paddles in semi auto and get the same effect as a manual but without the need for clutch foot.

With the old autos you could hold the car in the low gear you just had to use the gear selector.

Same with a modern auto with paddle gear selectors.

Also worth noting EVs do not have have gears any way so you are just driving on the accelerator and brakes.

I love using one pedal mode

Didn't take long to adapt to using taking foot off the accelerator to slow down (brake lights even come on)
