Anyone with acquaintances in Norway?
Apparently over half of cars on the roads are electric and last few months new sales have been over 90% EV.
Not the warmest of places either!

Have you looked into why? The govt have heavily loaded the dice in their favour, have invested heavily in the charging network. Well done them, they have used the revenue from oil and gas very wisely over the years and this is part of it. People have been strongly pushed down this route to the point where there is not really a choice in the matter.

Yes, hence the question....
How do they feel about that.

Id imagine much like the UK, there will some who just can't get by without a car that they can drive 600 miles non stop in and others who don't care either way and carry on life as normal, just a bit quieter and less polluting.

Bingo card at the ready , already got oil and gas for a corner 😜

The government there have gone all in , sorted out a better charging network and have left them very little choice but to get EV .

New car sales in Norway has dropped by nearly 70% since 2021 after they increased ( everyone rushing to get ICE cars )

Also volume is massively different

120k in Norway

1.9mil in the UK in 2023

My parents picked up their EV about a week ago

Their charger isn't installed for 2 more weeks (had an offer of tomorrow but their busy)

So I've lent them my 10 meter 3 pin charger and when they come over I just top up their car for them (like I'm doing now as dad's come round to look after eldest whilst my car goes for first inspection now it's done 10,000 miles)

About the only way I can get them to accept anything off me lol 😆

Well Kia Romford already smash vauxhall Romford / lakeside. I turn up, plenty of parking! Think there was 7 spare spaces when I parked. Vauxhall was always full of cars they hadn't sold so you had to double park or leave it blocking the door

1st optional inspection undertaken, got it free with the car, took about 2 hours including valeting it afters (which saves me cleaning it this week)

Only advisory on the vehicle check was 2 tyres below 5mm (4.8) and the wipers are worn on front

Not bad after first 10k miles

Will check the tyres again at 15k see if I can push them to 20k when it gets its next free full service and then moves to 20k miles service intervals

The parking makes it worth while. Easy trip. Next time I'm tempted to take My clubs and walk 15 mins to the driving range tho..

Edit will add as I just looked at the paper work

Battery health check showed 100% which is always good when it's done 10k already not even a % drop.. and I charge to 100% often

Anyone seen this interview with James May?
It's a bit long, but he has some very sensible things to say about EVs and their future.
Seemed like a well balanced analysis. Petrolheads and EVangelists should take it on board.

I haven't watched it yet (I'll put on the list) however I've always liked James may. He was always the most interesting on top gear because he wasn't just a prat or a loud mouth. Just very witty and knowledgeable

I don’t really like the concept of being an EVangelist or petrol head ..
I work in the business, I like cars, I appreciate cars .. but I am neither of the above.
Petrol heads to me are drive way mechanics who bolt eBay extras on and talk techno babble down the pub and have permanent oil under their finger nails .. but fair play to them.
Evangelists not sure what they are to be honest suspect it’s just a derogatory term for someone who is happy with their EV.

For me the decision was simple, I liked the power delivery- ultimately if you want to drive fast, gear changing is slow, so DSG or race boxes are quicker than a std manual box ( electric is quicker) ..
But also my usage case made it a sensible decision. I don’t think the EV support infrastructure is there yet and it could be better .. but I am not going to say to you that your an environmental terrorist for driving ICE ( I have an MX5 in my garage !)
I just don’t think I can take government policy seriously if they are not reducing the level of high emissions vehicles and penalising low emissions vehicles and not improving infrastructure in general.

Agree with the infra bit. Surely, councils who introduce LEZ, etc should be forced to use the money generated for encouraging public transport, EV charging etc. Bristol (local to me so good example) has had a LEZ for a few years and in that time the bus routes have also been slashed so what is the LEZ money going to?

That wasn't what I meant when I used those terms.

My intention was that a petrolhead is someone who thinks EVs are rubbish and would never consider one. I guess there might be a better term, but none spring to mind.

As for EVangelist: that was certainly not intended to refer to people who are happy with an EV. Rather, aimed at the extreme types who believe an EV is the right car for everyone, unable to acknowledge their limitations.

A colleague got shafted with a dodgy EV at Frankfurt airport yesterday, he had an 80 mile journey to the hotel and had to stop twice to charge it.
He wasn’t happy but it made all the other engineers laugh 🤣

It should be a case where they have to account for these money generating activities.. then that should be made public choice.
LEZ should be there to support the introduction of support mechanism for low emissions vehicles.
