I think it's their visibility that is the issue. Have a look at your coat rack, and what you wear when you are a pedestrian. Ours are all black and grey, 'no' grown up is wearing bright bold colours at the time. We make a point to get junior a red jacket.
As a pedestrian we are fine, we use pavements, we look when we cross traffic, ... .

Now, for riding on pavement they are just too fast. And a lot of people riding them ...

The issue here along with e bikes around London or bored bikes is that no body carries a high vis, and you’d look like a tit if you did.

Latest update on the saga of my daughter's MG ZS EV (see post #7322)...

The MG dealer finally got to look at the car yesterday (9th Dec, the car died on 30th Nov).
Apparently the problem is a known issue and was fixed with some software updates.
Oh really? SO WHY WASN'T IT RECALLED? 😡🤬

This car is leased from the dealer in question, who wouldn't even supply a courtesy car!
Their attitude throughout the whole process has been woeful.
Time to name and shame: Palmers in Hemel Hempstead.

Her attitude to EVs has now changed from "don't get an EV" to "don't get an MG".

I'm glad I didn't go to MG tbh

I was very tempted with the price etc. the guys at cleevly auto (they service EVs on your drive) use mg5s but can see why as they can repair themselves

The recall situation sums up the industry now.

My Corsa abs wiring loom went. It's a known issue .. but instead of recalling the attuide was let them fail and when they do replace them

That's an awful attitude

I can understand not recalling trivial things to save money, but if it was the ABS loom, then isn't that a safety issue?
Not to recall something safety-related seems almost criminal.

And in my daughter's case, the fix was just a software update, so it's not going to cost anything. No excuse.

It's pathetic isn't it? These companies do the bear minimum now days

As you say it's such a quick fix there is zero excuse

Mine they claimed it could be driven just without abs

It's a sodding MOT failure!!

What a clanger from BMW. Over the last few weeks, have struggled with Octopus smart charging. So i dumb charge at 11:30 every night. For the past couple of days, it wont charge that way either. Could not figure out what was happening. Deleted the car and tried to add it again... but BMW is no longer on Octopus's smart charge list. So messaged Octopus and got this response.

Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, BMW is currently experiencing issues due to revoking third-party access including tariffs like ours Intelligent Octopus Go. Until this is resolved on BMW’s side, we won’t be able to keep most BMW customers on the Intelligent tariff. However, if you have a compatible charger, you may still be able to remain on this tariff while BMW works on resolving the issue. Let us know if you need help to check your charger compatibility, and we’ll be happy to assist!
We are working with BMW to fix this issue, but in the meantime, we would recommend you manually charge your EV. We are hopeful that we'll have a solution to this problem in the coming weeks, but this is a soft timescale as it is a new issue. You'll remain on Intelligent Octopus Go while we work on this and once it has been fixed you'll then be able to integrate again with your BMW and take advantage of smart charging.

What is the difference between regular charging and charging smartly?
Smart charging is when i plug it into my home charger and Octopus decides when to charge the car based on how much leccy they have in the grid. So it will be on and off but it will be fully charged by (say) 6am. Octopus controls the charge, and it is during the cheapest evergy cycle

Dumb is when it just charges when i plug it in or via the App

Also while the car is smart charging the whole house gets the 7p cheap rate.

Why, it is an irritation?
That maybe true, but there has been a massive uptake in the Random Irritations thread to the point where the irritation has become a topic in its own right with much back and forth discussion (by the “usual suspects”) and that in itself is a massive irritation.
My take on the Random Irritations thread is that it is place to vent random irritations, anything worthy of a prolonged discussion should have its own thread.

I am afraid I dumb charge on my BMW. I don’t believe smart charging exists .. nor am I a believer in green only. The electrical system is constantly pumping out and it’s the draw or demand that varies. All suppliers should divulge the low demand windows and then we can set the charge in that window. ( eventually it will be demand all day and night) I would also expect low demand should give a low price ..
I would also ask the question about you battery being charged in dribs and drabs and at mixed non controlled rates .. I think this may cause damage ?

Drips and drabs will not do any damage to your battery. Especially as the speeds involved. Just like a solar battery. They last ages and they are charged in drips and drabs. Sometimes very low. Sometimes on and off

Car batteries are fantastic bits of tech which are also managed by very clever battery management systems. Smart charging will cause zero damage to it.

People worry far too much about battery damage. The oldest EVs are proving batteries are lasting year longer than first thought and degrading isn't the issue first thought

That said @Mudball I would not trust any car company (bar Tesla) to manage smart charging as they can't write good software. Chargers are what you need

Which is why the only chargers that get the PJ87 seal of approval are ohme and zappi
