The all things EV chat thread

Nice!

With that charger you won't get on the smart tariffs however if you have a smart meter octopus go standard tariff or eon drive to get some cheap overnight rate to fill it up!!
British Gas seemed to think their one is ok because it gives you cheaper electricity for 5 hours every night, I might be wrong though

Yeah their ones ok 7.9p a kWh, so cheaper than go but 1p more than eon with 2 hours less. But sometimes not worth the hassle of switching

I'll definitely shop around, to be honest even the day time rate is way cheaper than public charging. The BMW won't be too bad because we can get over half a charge on it in 5 hours but the Porsche has a way bigger battery so will probably need some day charging too when we have both. The BG day rate was a bit better than the Octopus one last I checked. A pity we won't be able to get on the smart one because I think I saw that gives you 6 hours per night instead of 5, would have been useful....

Carwow drove the Porsche to Scotland in their last range shootout

Eon is 7 hours at 6.9 no need for smart charging!

Just had a look at their tariff, looks a lot better than the British Gas one (which was slightly better than Octopus go).

Yeah octopus have set their stall out as very much if you want the best charging rates you need to let us control it. Which for me is fine I've got an ohme charger

But others are offering flat cheap rates which beat their standard one

As you well know, best charging network, probably best battery tech etc. Really good cars. Shame about the big central tablet screen.
Just watched a YouTube video comparing Kia, Skoda and Mini EVs on a trip to Belgium.
What interested me was that they charged all the cars at Tesla Superchargers. Suggests to me that the opening up of Tesla chargers to all makes is coming along nicely. In which case, their excellent charging network is no longer a reason to go for a Tesla.

Is anyone here running a VW ID7? What’s the range drop off in winter?

Looking at the GTX Touring. Seems like the ideal golfers car. Big, quick, comfortable estate.
I’ve had the ID4 for almost 2 months so can’t tell you the drop off compared to summer months but I expect it’ll be noticeable. I’ve been charging to 80% and on short trips I’ve been doing you do notice a drop. It’s a great car though. There’s so much tech on them.

Just used the Osprey charging hub at Brackley A43 near Silverstone to charge a brand new EV model

I’ve used loads of different chargers over the last 5 years, but this was super easy to use and much cheaper than many rivals

I’ll be looking out for Osprey in the future

We are taking the kids to Warwick castle this weekend. Could be a place for a top up!

There’s a big InstaVolt charging hub just off the M40 at Banbury too which is an option 👍

Cheers Phil! Will defo be making a pit stop each way for their toilet breaks so they could be perfect solutions

Mild weekend aswell which is lovely

I am going to be a bit controversial. For our next EV, I would seriously consider a Chinese car.. The tech the chinese are putting out some serious tech.
the new BYD U8 is a phenomenal kit - though i would probably go for a more affordable regular model. The Germans have shot themselves in the foot.

Don't think thats controversial, it's very sensible tbh

Ironically the Germans "posher" brands (Audi, Merc, BMW) have made more of a hash than the "lesser" brands (VW, Skoda)

BYD Seal would be my choice. At least until Nio decide to release the ET7 over here.

Chinese imports are going to be huge in the next few years.

I did chat with a retired guy who had an Audi EV (not sure which one)
He said it was brilliant, couldn't really fault it except for one thing....
I thought here we go....too expensive to buy, not enough range or chargers...but no.
He said it's too fast. 😯
He gets on the motorway and because it's so quiet, he doesn't realise he's up to 90 already

Parents home charger is being installed by octopus ATM

They have already got me to speak to the spark on the phone to explain what i was telling them to do about how to wire it outside their battery lol 🤣

Nice 8 m cable being installed so they can reach most of their driveway aswell
