The all things EV chat thread

Why are there so many Hyundai Ioniq for sale cheap on autotrader?

A few years ago I had one (hybrid) on loan for quite a few weeks but found a few quirky things that made me think I would not buy one.*

I had to laugh though one of the the things was a lack of a rear windscreen wiper, a couple of years later my neighbour pointed out where it was (the trouble with not having a handbook).

* the 66mpg round town driving from a 2l car was one of the things that made me think about it and was part of the decision to switch to an EV.

Thanks.

Ones I've seen aren't particularly high mileage so hadn't thought of that.

It's a car I did consider for the wife. However for her it came down to looks (luckily only for cars!!) she preferred her little Kona. And because she doesn't use that often it made sense. Personally I think the ioniq is a better all-rounder

I have now, and yes, it's a cracking looking car .............................. but I still don't want one.
Ah you must be out of the target market group then … I used to sit through some marketeer telling us who would buy what and what they had in their lives like family and pets plus their disposable incomes and preferences to lease and never own etc .. it was very creative! Then design showed up and they would say we will make this car and it will create its own market segment despite being impractical to build

Haven’t read through all this, is it true that road tax is coming in for EVs?

Yes, roughly £190 from April 1st next year unless it's changed.

Also subject to luxury car tax going forward for new reg

Existing EV only £190 unless pre 2017 then it's £0

I suspect it may also be that we’re coming to the end of the first lot of lease periods for the I5 given its release date. A lot will have been bought as company cars (as I did) but not necessarily doing company miles etc. I’ve got 2 years left on my deal, at the end of that period it’ll be a 4yr old car with 16,000 miles on the clock. Will be a bargain for someone.

Assume you would recommend one.
