Once again half the details warped to suit your point of view.

@Mudball is getting a 7kw charger installed and then he will be moving over to a lower tariff that enables him to charge his car at 9p a kw instead of 29p a kw currently

He is also getting solar which could top him up

However his 9p instantly cuts his £8 for 40 miles to £2.60 for 40 miles which is half the cost of your car.

He also can fill up whilst he sleeps.

We get it. It doesn't suit you. Congratulations 👏

Just going on the information he posted.
No need to jump in ................................. but then again.

No need for you to constantly post on this thread. We know you won't get one

But then again ....

Define constantly.
Over 4,500 posts, how many do you think are mine ................................. and how many do you think are yours?
Yes, I'm not a great fan of EVs and yes, you are a fan.
Can't both sides of the argument make a comment, if not it wouldn't be much of a thread.
But then again .....

Wow MG are going for the kill

£9k deposit
0% finance on the mg 4

£99 a month for 3 years

Is this a rental/hire type agreement on the car? I know nothing about this type of deal whether it's for ICE or EV so my question isn't from an anti-EV point of view. Just looking at the link you posted there's an "Optional final payment" of over £14k which I assume is after the end of the 3 years. Does this mean you can pay £99 per month for three years (+ your £9k deposit) and at the end of the three years either hand the car back or pay £14k to keep it?

EDIT - Also, is this a good deal? And that question applies equally to whether it was an EV or an ICE vehicle.

It's a PCP so you either pay that fee at the end or hand it back

With ice cars before markets fell the balloon payments was normally lower so you could buy it then sell the car for more than that final payment .. but if the value falls below that you send it back was the idea

The £99 a month is a very good deal. It's seriously caught my attention because I could go out tomorrow and buy that rather than saving for the Kia

The mg 4 has become a bit of a EV storm, their cheap and go good distance in the main .. I mean the car will end up costing 26k that's cheaper than a brand new ford focus I believev

Just wondered because that’s impressive real life mpg.
£8 for 40 miles at £6.80 a gallon is about 35mpg.
Since when was that "impressive"?
My petrol Skoda does 45mpg urban and easily over 50mpg on longer runs.

BTW, last time I filled up I happened to be passing Trago Mills in Newton Abbot. Unleaded was 130.9p a litre. (This is a Shell station, so I really don't think they're selling at a loss). Just goes to show how much profiteering is going on at other stations, including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, etc.

Oh dear. My apologies for misreading Slime's post. He said £5 for 40 miles.
Just goes to show you shouldn't post after drinking wine 🤐

At £6.80 a gallon that's more like 55mpg, which I agree is pretty impressive (unless it's a diesel, in which case it's about what you'd expect).

55mpg is just about the best real life result you could hope for in the very latest and best diesel engines available, driven to absolutely optimise fuel consumption.

I’m somewhat dubious of Slime’s numbers especially given his inexplicable stance against EVs.

For completely clarity, my family have both an EV and a diesel car. We had historically been using the diesel for longer trips to see family but have recently upgraded to a Kia Niro with a longer range and can now travel over 200 miles on a charge so find ourselves using it more and more often. And we are definitely saving money. We do have a charging point at home which helps but when we’re away we’re at the mercy of chargers.

Is it the new model? How are golf clubs in the boot? I'm looking at getting one earlier than planned. The numbers add up I ran them last night I could order one on PCP next week .. going to test drive it

kia_niro_ev_boot.jpg

I mean that looks ok in the pic 2021_KIA_ENIRO_NIRO_41-1024x683.jpg

And that passes the 3 car seats in back (bear in mind we would use 2 of the one on the right and then just a booster in the middle)

It could litterally replace the Alhambra on 99% of journeys

Yes it’s the new model but I’ve not swung a golf club in anger since we got the car so I couldn’t say for sure but I’d get my carry bag in there easily. It might take a bit of invention if I was a cart bag and electric trolley sort of man but for everyday use the boot is fantastic.

I'm an one bag kinda guy (stadry players 5 carry bag) .. it fits both carry and trolly so it does look like we got a winner

Going to test drive one next week prob order it then

The niro EV 4 with a heat pump seems to have every single feature Im missing from the Corsa .. especially as the monthly repayments are lower than what I'm putting aside for it seems a good idea to just bite the bullet

Yes, no, maybe and it depends. PCP may not be right for you, it’s worth looking at the many car finance comparisons to understand the suitability. The AA, money supermarket and so on might be helpful.

For me, that deal looks appealing on first glance but some things that put me off for my circumstances:

1. The mileage limit is too low. Of course it might be negotiable but it changes the deal. The excess mileage rate is not daft like some others so maybe not too big an issue

2. 33% deposit for a PCP is high, PCP tends to work better with a lower (as a proportional) deposit because remember you are just paying the depreciation and the manufacturer will profit twice. But overall on this deal those numbers aren’t bad. They’re just not as good as they look because…

3. I don’t feel like you get much car for £27k on this one. I’d want to look at the spec a lot more closely and I’d want something in higher trim with a lot more features. It’s not the car I’d be looking for.

Other than that. Not a bad deal on the surface. I’d wait a bit longer though, I think there may be better coming. Finance market seems to be calming with interest rates reversing a little.

My main gripe is the central console. The controls for climate and onboard entertainment share the same buttons and it’s far too easy to knock a button that takes you into the wrong section. I’d prefer an old fashioned analog style system but it’s a minor gripe!

Last summer I had a week in Lancashire and The Yorkshire Dales.
Over the whole week my car did 65.8mpg and it's a 12yr old Kia Cee'd 1.6 diesel.
But, if your calling me out on that, you crack on. (y)

My mk1 Skoda Superb 1.9TDI would do 50mpg mixed driving, and 69mpg on a run, cruising at legal limits which could if you wanted (as I did on occaision), do North East Kent to Plymouth, running around down there and returning back to North East Kent on 1 tank of fuel (just about 700 miles)
You didn't have to drive it like Ms Daisy the old lady either, and I did used to enjoy the fantastic torque the engine had;)
However it doesn't meet the narrative, so anything good said about diesels is immediately put down as lies.

Even when my students were thrashing 1st gear, spending 30 minutes practicing parallel parking and having to keep the engine running for heat/aircon I was still getting 60mpg from my Cactus........jus' sayin';)
