I find lowering your speed to 60 and cruising in the slow lane can make for a more relaxing trip

My daily commute is on the north circular which is dual carriageway but limit is 50 so doesn't affect me

My main thing is that the A303 is a 2 lane dual carriageway if you tried cruising at 60 in the nearside lane you would still have to do a lot of overtaking and need to speed up to 70 to get in to the outside lane.

When you travel a lot of the M25 you would be very happy to be able to cruise at 60 a lot of the time :ROFLMAO:

That's where it comes into its own tho. Getting up to speed is just a moment with the instant power

I read this today, talks about journey from M5 all the way into Scotland as they test 3 cars and the motorway charging infrastructure

Tesla wins.. but also shows the lack of infrastructure and how much we lack in this space. Mind you the article is from 2022, so things would have improved since then
Apple news requires apple devices

My son has a Tesla and does some long distance stuff. This week he was talking about taking his wife's petrol car in future to save the hassle.

I had seen a TV programme before buying one that was showing up the poor mileage when doing motorway speeds. Realistically though it is the same with a petrol engine but topping up an electric is no few minutes stop and off you however it did fit in with my planned usual coffee and pee breaks.

As always tho people don't want to stop , mad to think I've driven 220 miles, stopped for a wee then 220 back one hit. Wouldn't consider that now even in the big car I'd be unsafe

Stops are a good idea to be safer on the road for sure. Just need to have more chargers and then just bump whilst you wee

A petrol head friend does Surrey-Cornwall runs with his Tesla Y.... and they have adapted to the drive-stop-drive. But he is now going to trade it in for a Defender, because they find the Tesla a bit 'souless'

Do they give you an equivalent car.
Had a Mondeo once it was hit and they gave me a KA “ all we have” they said ???

On the EV I go for any car, I literally don't care. The policy included it. Last time they gave me a ford galaxy (bear in mind this is a Corsa lol)

But for the Alhambra I put like for like or whatever it's call so it must be a bigger car

Right , didn’t know you can stipulate same size. School day 👍
but makes sense!
Car must be fit for your needs!

I think it's called advanced hire car or something similar. Cost say £30 a year or something stupid like that

Might even be guaranteed hire car

I believe this one even includes hire car until a write off is fully paid out incase of that

I did a 30m round trip - mix of m25 and London. I left the house with about 60% odd .. got back with about 44% and about 95miles left … scared shitless. Am i supposed to pre condition before every drive?

I m going to get some juice tomorrow.

This very much depends on what insurance cover you have.

If you just have courtesy car cover it is take what they have. Most repair companies just have small low cost vehicles.
If you have opted to have a rental (additional premium) then it is usually like for like.

I also have problems with the type of courtesy cars that you get given. I drive automatics but find getting one as a courtesy car very difficult as they are in high demand. I thought I had like for like cover but checking found it was missing.

The only time I pre condition is when there is frost on the car to save the hassle of de-icing.
It really makes no difference if the car is not plugged in as you use the same amount of power stopped or running when you have the heating on.

I presume from your comment you cannot plug the car in at home, so you can precondition whilst it is plugged in.

Had a smile the other day, the car was in the drive pre conditioning and there was a knock on the door from a neighbour to tell me I had left the engine on.

When the car is really cold it stops charging for the pre condition, but for just air con it charges still

@Mudball I precondition for everytime I plan to use it. Mainly because it gets the cabin perfect , always set in the winter incase of Defrosting and nothing worse in summer than jumping in car and it being an oven

It does use slightly less energy than whacking on the heater / air con full blast but there isn't much in it

Charging an EV is expensive and time consuming

Just lost my EV charging virginity... was down to 39% and therefore decided to get some juice. Our supermarket shows that it has 6 charging stations ( 4 of which are obstructed) - but is the only fast charger nearby. So off i went to seek the holy grail. I have Electorvese and a BMW charge card (which uses Ionicity and BP pulse). Left the house around 11:30, drove past the petrol garage!!. As expected the supermarket one was in use, so parked in the next bay and waited. And waited and waited. Went inside, dropped off some dry cleaning stuff and came back to resume my wait.

Kept looking for other stations in the neighborhood. I know that our town center's multi-storey car park has chargers. So decided to head there. The queues to get in there were a mile long, so abandoned that.

Finally found a fast charger in an office complex. So drove there to find 9 EVBox chargers sitting idle. Unfortunately, it wont accept Electroverse app and needs either a EVBox App or a charge card. Luckily, i had my BMW Charge card. So presto, it allowed me to charge.

At 12:20, I plugged it into a CCS and lo and behold it was a 40kwh one (even though it said 29KwH). The car display said, 80% by 1:18... 1 hour of sitting around. So walked down to our town centre. I never go there - dont like getting stabbed. Enjoyed a coffee, then went and saw the decorations. Went into Waterstones and bought a real book - for reading when i charge next. At about 1:05, the App notified me that the car has hit 80% and unlocked the cable. So scrambled back. Tried to increase target from 80% to 90% (just in case it can get some extra juice - but the car wont do that). Got home for about 1:30. Now the car can do about 180miles on it. The app would not tell me how much it will cost me, other than saying that i put 32KwH

In summary:
Total time to refuel >> 2 hours
Total cost>> 3.95 coffee, £12.99 book and whatever EVBox will charge me.
Plenty of squeaky bum and anxiety trying to figure it out.

Welcome to the world of EVs

Do you not have any kind of charger at home? Even a 3 pin would do and charge whilst you sleep.

You really aren't selling them to me.
A mate of mine has an EV Jag, but he won't park it in his massive garage just in case it catches fire!
He doesn't want to incinerate his 'proper car'.

That would be his "proper car" full of highly combustible fuel that needs a series of small combustions to move as opposed to something that has less fires than ICE engines?

Sounds like your mates a bit of an idiot

Put you could put out a ICE fire by pis*ing on it... dont try it on a 70KwH battery..
