I was with EDF about 2006/2007, never again. Wasn’t happy with their estimates/standing order (or direct debit) and agree with Lord Tyrion on customer service.

My hate of them is only trumped by British Gas.

Who are you with ATM Bob? OVO apparently offering 7p anytime charging

Wouldn't suit me as I use the 9p to charge the home batteries aswell so just using the home charger wouldn't be cost effective

But great for people who just want to charge

I'm with Shell but apparently they are being taken over by Octopus so will wait and see what changes they will make.
I'm not with Octopus but they do seem to be the only decent energy company out there, certainly in terms of service. If your company has been taken over by them then it is probably for the better. I'd be more worried if the take over was the other way around.

They aren't as good as used to be because they have so many more customers to deal with

However if you tweet them instead of email they are first class

I haven't found them as you describe. They never come back with answers to queries.

As said above. Contact them on twitter. They get back in minutes if not hours

Emails not so much since they have taken over a lot more customers

The twitter team are still first class.

Maybe next time.

We now have a salary sacrifice scheme at work, but the cars on there are not particularly suitable (or desirable) and most are on 6 to 12 month waiting lists.

So, I bought a pertrol powered ICE rather than a dirty diesel which should see me through until EVs are available that are more suitable and affordable (to me).

What did you go for in the end? Always interested to hear about car choices.

Having looked at a lot of different cars last week while off work.

I settled on a very well spec’d 540i xDrive. I was desperately trying to buy something other than a new 5 series, not because it’s a bad car, but because I just wanted something different, but the 5 just does everything I want very well. There aren’t many with the 3L petrol engine and comfort seats so I was limited with choice.

A close runner up was an Audi S6, but the dealer and range put me off.

Consideration was made towards a big V8 X5 but that was only fleeting, and common sense quickly prevailed.
The family wanted me to get a RR Sport, which was very nice, but comically expensive to run and almost impossible to insure for a sensible price.

So I ended up with the newer version of the car I have now. But with a petrol engine instead of a diesel one.

I did look at a couple of EVs, but the range on bigger ones is terrible unless one’s spends a lot more money than I am prepared to on one.

Perfect, buy what suits your needs.
Then, in a few years look again.

The key for me is don't rely on info/facts that are years out of date.

My experience with Octopus is that they do respond to emails reasonably well. Not instantly, but you can hardly expect that. Never used Twitter so can't comment on that.

The thing that does vaguely concern me is that because Octopus are offering some innovative services they could collect so many customers that they creep into a position of market dominance. They could end up being the UK energy market equivalent of Google or Apple. And we all know how companies like Google and Apple start behaving once they are dominant.

Does anyone know/understand what Octopus is actually doing different/better than what Bulb did? About 5 years ago Bulb had exactly the hype Octopus has now.

Well, one thing Octopus does better than Bulb is stay in business 😅

I used to be with Bulb, and they seemed very good at the time.
When I first heard about Octopus (about 5 years ago) I looked into switching, but at the time it wouldn't have saved me any money.
But now Octopus have a big range of innovative tariffs. Bulb seemed to have just the one (very competitive) tariff.

Yes. Bulb were seen as cheap no? Different from the big players etc

Octopus are innovating the market.

Their smart tariffs are market leading

When I first got an EV standard octopus was 14p roughly all day. Same as the main players

But if you got an EV it was 5p during the 4 hour cheap and 13p night. No brainer if you had one

Fast forward to now they have so many different tariffs geared towards different tech

Bog standard octopus go for those EVs who can't get intelligent.
Currently 31p day 9p night (4 hours)

Intelligent. 6 hours at 7.5p 31p rest I believe without looking but also plug in on the day. Press map charge and they take over your charger. If there is excess green energy they will map your charge to become then. On top of your 6 hours cheap you can get many more hours cheap (your house gets it aswell during those times)

They have octopus cosy , cheap overnight rate , Two cheaper rates where you would most likely want your heating on (it's a heat pump tariff)

Octopus intelligent now accepts one type of home battery (givenergy) so they can charge your battery up for you when the grid has excess energy

Octopus agile, very popular with some home battery users . Next day prices released the day before .. sometimes your paid to use energy (when very windy or very sunny and not being used up) can programme some systems to talk to octopus to track the agile prices and act accordingly

Gas tracker is very popular, tracks the whole sale. Has a cap on it so most you pay is whatever that cap is per kWh.. but if gas is cheap your bill for that half hour is cheaper etc

They are constantly launching new products to innovate a very outdated grid. Supply

Considering how many companies went under aswell they did all this whilst staying in business

Their Kraken tech is market leading

Test drove a Tesla Model Y today and have just ordered one. Was much better than I thought it would be and due to limited choices to replace my company car decided to go for it.

Beautiful cars , would love to get one . Shame the insurance was just too much for me to justify

Really lovely cars

Love the "frunk" front trunk for the cables or whatever you decide
