Played in the medal today ( net 72 ). One of the guys I was playing with was having a bad day off the tee. He was obviously a decent player, off 12. However, by the time the 14th came and another shot went wild, he slammed his driver into the ground and snapped the head off !!

At first I laughed inside, but then I thought what an absolute knob. Not only could he not keep control of his emotions he was potentially putting his playing partners frame of mind in jeopardy. I have to say I lost respect for him after that point.

Anyone else have tales of tantrums on the course ?

there was a boy on the range on friday who was dropping his clubs, hitting them into the ground and kicking his bag- absolute knob! Fortunately I haven't experienced this on the course.

Ive seen bags ripped, greens damaged and "sore wrist" walk offs, You have to see it as their own stupidity and that you would never let the "game" get to you that much (the hint is in the name!)

Have to admit as a youngster I was pretty bad but it was more frustration that I knew I could play well and that I couldn't perform on that particular day. No excuse just the way it was. Got better as the years have rolled on and can't remember the last time I chucked a club although I have been known to make the odd expletive as the ball sails towards the OB

I think it does put other people of their game and I know I didn't appreciate it when I've played with others who have done it. My mate got a set of Yonex in graphite recently and hit a ball into the bunker and failed to get it out so smashed the club into the sand and snapped the shaft. He took it back to AG and claimed it snapped playing a shot (they fixed it for him but I think they knew)

Very good fella, I once played with a guy that said he had to get a new putter and when asked why he said his last one didnt float. I'll swear Ive seen that quote on the internet somewhere before though.

The unfortunate thing about playing with people who have a bad temper on the course is that it rubs off & spoils your own Karma.

I used to play with someone regularly at a previous club I was a member of & it effected me a lot, to the extent that I have to do lot to keep my calm myself now. I often get very frustrated with myself, but bite my tongue figuritively speaking to try not to tell myself off too much after bad shots.

However I never go so far as to break clubs, which is more than can be said for a mate of mine who tried to chop down a tree with his lob wedge one day, on one hand highly ammusing, on another very disturbing & embaressing to witness. Though I knew that day I had the upper hand in that match & smilled inwardly at my good fortune & for once didn't allow someone elses frustration to negetively affect my karma.

I must admit my temper used to be awful but Ive calmed down a lot and realised theres no need its just a game and you'll have plenty of chances in your life to cut your handicap. I even laughed when I got a 9 at the first in the September medal - I made a net 69 btw!

I have a terrible temper but strangely it doesn't surface on the course. Why take it out of a club. It's not the clubs fault that some jerk can't use it.

I saw a guy kicking hell out of his bag about two months ago. It's crime? It was in his way after he had fluffed two consecutive shots. I felt like going over and giving him a slap!!!!

Brendy you may have seen that quote as an RBS advert during Setanta or Sky golf coverage! Its a regular and one of my favourites!

As far as temper, I'm not too bad. I get annoyed at myself but the worst I do is a few muttered expletives under my breath!

I don't do the club throwing thing. Been tempted, oh yes!
Generally mutter expletives to myself within earshot of my ears only.
Other golfers have no wish to hear bad language owing to duffed shots. Believe me, If every duff shot I played was followed by expletives audible to other golfers, I think I would have been hauled before the committee before now!

I used to play with a guy who bent his 7i throwing it at his stand bag, not only that but he bent the leg on his bag and when we tee'd off on the 10th he topped his shot and before the ball stopped his club followed and went further than his ball!! I was embarressed at first but laughed at what a knob he was for doing that.

This topic has come up before. I'll admit that I've thrown and even broken clubs in temper. The cure is to see another player doing it. Makes you realise that you look a complete knob having a tantrum on the course.
BTW I don't mind the odd expletive or a driver banged down on the tee. We're all human, aren't we?

My mate, the guy who introduced me to golf.
He is the most hypersensitive person on a golf course, totally the opposite once he's off.

Once on the green I swear he could hear a gnat f*rt at twenty paces.

I've seen clubs, balls and bag airborne. To me it all seems so ridiculous that it just relaxes me - providing I'm out of the line of fire.

My mates 16 year old son used to join us in a four ball, nice lad , very competitive and self concious . He would often drop, throw , hit his clubs into the ground and generally spit the dummy out. It was mainly due to trying to play beyond himself ,trying to hit the ball 280y when his distance was more like 220y .One round after numerous poor tee shots , he hits a massive slice at the 14th , smashes the club into the ground , walks back to his pull trolley and slings the club back into it, and kicked the plastic wheel snapping it off . Then realised that it was his dads trolley  Needless to say that he carried for the rest of the rounnd as dad had his trolley.

Cousin of mine missed a 3 footer , swing his putter back in anger and carved a chunk out of the green at a rather posh club we played last year.

His father gave him a rather stern lecture at the side of the green and the atmosphere was strained to say the least.

Embarrasing to say the least I've walked off twice (not during comps) both due to the "weather" but never done anything other thank swear when it goes sailing into the OB after a great tee shot.

The day I have a tantrum on the course is the day I retire from golf

Have to own up to doing this myself, but stopped last year when I threw my lob wedge into the ground after a fluffed chip and the shaft snapped in two!
Realised how big a plonker I must have looked and havn't done it since.

I have been known to call myself an effing w@nker on a few occasions but then I am known for having a rather volatile temper at times.

I also have a habit of disgustedly throwing the ball away should I have a birdie putt lip out. That is more out of superstition than anger however.

I have thrown a club once or twice but have stopped after realising what a nob it makes those who do it look.
