Tell the truth about your driver distances....

If I hit it straight, it will average about 230-240 yards.

I have once managed to hit one a shade over 300 yards, but it was a warm day, with plenty of roll very slightly down hill and what I would consider my "best ever" drive

Pretty much mine too. The drive that stands out for me was on the 8th at Abbotsey. Warm day slight downhill and using a Callaway Warbird.

Just measured two of mine today. First was 250 carry with 30 roll out hitting a slight up slope. Second was 260 carry with 40 roll out hitting a flat fairway which is solid. I don't know how accurate the yardages are on Google earth but I have regularly hit our 3rd green which is 303 yards on a laser finder to the middle.

Not doubting you, but how do you measure the carry? From 250yds away I would say it was practically impossible to tell where the ball lands.

225 carry - 240-ish total.

Had one that I never felt the other day that went 285. No idea where that came from! Nothing in the fairway for it to hit! First time I've been on that Par 5 in 2!

On the basis I currently cant hit it for toffee it really doesnt matter how far it goes, its sitting in the corner of the hallway and likely to be there until winter comes round again (thats assuming i play much before then), spend most of my games being outhit these days as Im only hitting 3 iron off most tees lol

Last time was on a launch monitor the best ones were carrying in the 270s (with Ricks hideous TM white driver ), can get it out there with all but the best of them on the days it is working, but those days seem rarer and rarer

I really don't know my driver length. Demo a driver about a year ago at AG and there swing machine said carry 225 roll to about 250. But I've measure a few shot of late and am getting 250 finish up hill and that measure with my range finder.

I'm with Hawkeye on this one. I measure many drives with GPS and it's usually 220-240 with a really good one being up at 250 but that's from where it started to where it stopped. I have no idea from the tee (220-240 yards back) how far it carried and then bounced/rolled to it's resting place unless it's a squidgy fairway with a crater for a pitch mark.
Dry day with a solid fairway, please tell me how you know where it came down and how far it rolled (no please, I am genuinely interested to know).

Further than most. Not as far as some.

We should arrange a forum long drive contest. If we did, I would enter it and would hit some good ones I am sure. I wouldn't win though.

Swinger would.

I'm gonna have to get popcorn from the cash'n'carry after that post

For the people that don't know.... how do you decide whether or not to take water hazards and bunkers on from the tee?

Everyone will have a rough idea, just not an exact one. If the hazard needed a carry of 240yds, then most on here are laying up. I bet the ones that don't know go in less hazards than the ones that think they do...

...you got that popcorn yet Darth :D

I pop out for some lunch come back to 4 pages! good work guys.....

just for the record, my distances were from winter golf when I'd find the crater my ball left in the ground......I did say I hit it high!

Yeah....bloody gorilla! He knocked one into a hazard at Hayling that is 310 from the tee. In winter. Into a slight breeze. I told him it wasn't in play

Your right that is a guess but I know within 5 or so yards where it bounced in relation to yardage markers, trees etc.
Unless your on a flightscope your not going to know exactly your carry unless you hit a bunker or clip a tree.

Our 18th off the whites has a 220 yard carry to hit actual fairway. (SI 18 as well, go figure)

I have nade it once onto the fairway but that was pitching short and getting a lucky bounce.

If I hit a really nice drive with no help from the wind and hit fairway I,m looking at 240 max.

Usually shorter but 80% accuracy ;)
