Taking son for his 1st ever round

so my 16 y/o has the bug (costing me a forune in range balls) and I am taking him out for his 1st ever 18 holes, he gets free membership until he is 17 so all good there. Luckily my club only has 79 members so course will probably be empty so no worries with slow play/hold ups.

He can't hit driver or woods yet but hits 3 hybrid 200 ish and fairly decent with his irons so was wondering should I just let him get on with it and choose his own club/shots?

I am off 28 so not really good enough to advise too much anyway.

just glad he is my size in clothing (just about) as can't afford to kit him out lol.

he has a makeshift set so enough to get on with, just hope he doesnt expect me to buy him all the latest kit as even I dont have any of that

I would DEF let him get on with it, offer encouragement ONLY at this stage unless he specifically says Daaad help!
this could cement or liquify his interest in golf so let him have FUN FUN FUN and he will learn

I've been taking my eldest little one up the range to use the power tees. He's 3 and half!

Give him four years and he'll be better than me!

well it was not too bad at all. He did struggle with alignment and was trying to skin the ball on most shots but, he chipped ok and putted decent and hit a couple of decent tee shots with the 4 hybrid. gonna get him some junior lessons while he still qualifies.

got a feeling he needs some better irons as the md tour steel with graphite shafts aint much cop, will have to do for now though.

yeah, I know what you mean. As I have only just taken golf up myself this year I am sure he will soon be showing me how its done.

Totally agree. Mines 2 approaching 3 taking him to the course tomorrow for the second time. He loves it!
