Know exactly what you mean. I've ad rounds where I really haven't enjoyed it & felt like I've battled my way round the course, yet scored decent. & then days when I struck the ball well but score was shocking.

I've had a few good scores where I've played badly and got a lot of luck. Didn't really feel like I achieved anything do it though.

I've had days with bad score but plenty of positives and usually feel a bit more upbeat about them but would never say that I played well for them. Today was a fine example. 28 points round Lough Erne. Plenty of positives from it but re highlighted a few areas I really need to work on if I want to lower my HC.

Monthly medal today. Came in with net 74 (+4) with SEVENdouble bogies

My driver was the main culprit on the front nine but I just seemed to chuck silly shots away on the back nine. I went out in 40 (+5) including two doubles, and then threw doubles at 12, 13 and 14. The only real bad shot I hit though was a top of the 18th into the environmental area (OB) in front of the tee. In all my years playing the course I have never done that. What can I say. Crap shot and rightly punished. If even three of these doubles were a single bogey then I'd have been level par. Such a stupid game

Well played........

Know exactly how you feel Gibbo.

Played yesterday and had 29 points with 6 blobs.

Front nine - I had 2 points through 6 holes. Every bad shot imaginable made an appearance. Scraped 5 points from the last 3 holes to get to the turn with a massive 7 points.

Took my time and stopped trying to steer the ball on the 10th and caught one clean out of the middle to leave a 6 foot putt for birdie. Missed the putt but made a much needed par. Went on to find every green in regulation until the 16th and managed to get up and down for par to be -1 for the back 9 on 17th tee.

Made an 8 on 17 and a bogey 5 on 18 to come in with 22 points (+3 gross) for the back 9.

How I dug myseld out of that hole I am not sure, but my points score definetely dont paint an accurate picture of my round.

The last time I struck the ball well I had a bad score. For the last 2 or 3 weeks I've been hitting it poorly and managing to cobble a score together.

It's the way golf works, so you always have sometime to be happy about and something to moan about all at the same time. :)

Doesn't sound daft to me Gibbo been suffering this issue all year long, last medal a week ago I had 12 pars, 1 birdie and 5 don't asks! Missed buffer by a mile as a result and in those 5 holes I can't even say I played them all that badly but the numbers don't lie!

Frustrating game but keep plugging away mate.

Got to agree with Fader there, I've been sounding like a stuck record all year, saying that my ball striking is good, my putting is as usual and my chipping is improving then coming in with nett 76+s without really doing too much wrong!

Sunday's medal:
Out in 47, 1 birdie, 1 par, 3 bogeys, 3 doubles, 1 triple.
Back in 40, 1 birdie, 4 pars, 3 bogeys, 1 double

Bit of a mixed bag, and my greens in regulation stats are shocking, but my short game is magic at present, so I'm scrambling an okay round last couple of rounds (bar the birdies which were pretty awesome!). Best I've played in a medal for a long, long time, with a swing that's still not quite there.

I got to the stage where I was past scrambling good scores and my swing was causing me too many problems when I reached 13 handicap, hence the swing change. I'll get there.

Played Carden on the Nicklaus course and hit 5 3 off the tee's and still carded 99 - was absolutely distraught, would have carded my best score ever. Couldn't believe it, my driver has been consistant, not long but mostly fairways and hit 4 drives and an iron lost. Went round the Cheshire course and my driver was gone, couldn't and still can't hit it at the moment. So gutted, struggled for about a year fighting a draw, got rid of most of it and now I'm doing it again. My iron play was for me superb, short game was a lottery and steady putting.

I couldn't understand how I hit it so well off the tee on Saturday and then got into so much trouble on Sunday. I hate not having a shred of consistency from one nine to another let alone one round to the next

Just sounds as though the Op hasn't got it mentally.

Focus, focus, focus. If your striking it well and are shooting that sort if score then you need to question where your going wrong or take up bowls.

The mind is a wonderful thing.

One thing you need to realise in golf is just because you hit it well today doesn't mean you'll hit it well tomorrow. Pulling a shot left off the 1st tee doesn't mean you'll do the same off the 2nd. Every shot is individual, just take it one shot at a time.

The mind is a wonderful thing.

the mind is a pita :)

I do agree about the focus and mental issues. a bad shot tends to lead to another bad shot, its definitely a mindset thing. I will try and take the one shot at a time mantra next time out. Its something we read all the time yet forget to do once a competition card is in our hands lol (not all of us obviously)
