Oh, I get that the graphic changed when the second person was up but it was still meaningless. Why not show the number of shots both players had played up to that point? That is the information we actually need to see.

I guess, and it is a guess, that many of the graphics used were geared towards a non golfing audience as this is the one event that attracts them. To a non golfer, the put to win or half is all that they want to know in many instances and strokes taken is less relevant.

I didn't find it a problem. I knew if it said 'eagle putt' then the other guy likely had an eagle putt as well. Whereas if it said 'putt to win' then I knew the other guy was already a shot ahead, if you know what I mean. You just had to connect the two dots.

I’m sure it’s already been discussed but I’m not trawling back through 20 pages 🤣
What’s peoples thoughts on Spieths gimme on 16? They never really showed a replay iirc, to me Tommy still had a bit of work to do to finish it off, specially as it effectively handed Europe the Ryder Cup.

Wasn't it Fowler

And I think it was spot on to give the put (whichever way it was for)

You won't find any chat about Speith's gimme. Fowler's maybe... 😉
I thought it was classy, albeit a bit defeatist.

Apparently all the cameras went down (power cut) at the end with the exception of the drone high above 18th green. This is why they were unable to show Bobby’s last winning holes.

I missed seeing the length of putt that Fowler gave. But was it not the case that Fowler had made bogey, and Fleetwood's putt was for birdie? So he had two putts to win the hole? I remember Fowler was in the water and Fleetwood had driven the green. Oh wait, I've just checked the scorecards and Rickie actually made par, I didn't realise.

I’d say he was correct to give it.

Imagine the discussions that would have happened if social media was a thing for the Nicklaus/Jacklin incident

It was a 3 footer according to a GM article, slippy putt with some break on it, and given Tommy is a bit flaky with his putter I fully expected it to be holed out. I’m not complaining though, it was getting a bit too close for comfort at the time 🥵

I think in any circumstances, I would ask someone to make the put to retain or win the Ryder Cup. Not sure anyone could complain about that. May even say to the person putting that I would give it under any other circumstances but you know that it is all over if I do and so I have to see it in.
Obviously completely different levels but I'm the same in matchplay that I've played. If I'm losing the match on the back nine I'm not really giving a putt unless it's a one foot or less tap-in. Never ever going to give a two or three footer for dormie or for the win. And like you, I'd probably say something like "I can't give it for the win, sorry!"

Is it likely that Fowler knew the bang up to date situation with the other matches. If so I think at that moment it was virtually inevitable for europe to reach 14.5 even if Tommy missed

Maybe as the camera work was sometimes out of sync, Lowry celebrated like he’d won the Ryder Cup for Europe, bet he was gutted when he found out Tommy had already won it a minute before 🤣

I think Fowler had a putt for par which was slightly longer than Fleetwood's birdie putt. You can see him picking up his marker just before he concedes.

Fowler is a good guy.

Looking at it from the other point of view as well. Semantics I know but would you rather be the person who sank the putt to win the Ryder Cup or be the person who was given the putt to win it.

This ^^. Definitely splitting hairs and absolutely in the moment Fleetwood will be delighted to have not had to putt out, but putting out 'to win the Ryder Cup' is what you practice when you're a kid right? If I'm Rickie Fowler and I know it's for the cup, I'm not giving it.

They won and that is the most important thing by a mile, but feel like Fleetwood putting out for the cup would have been beneficial individually going forward too, assuming he actually holed it!
