Don't think Johnson did enough in the two majors so far TBH.
But as the US team is notionally representing the US PGA, and Brooks has been he best US performer in the two majors and is the PGA champion - be tricky not to pick him. Trick for Zach.

Dechambeau also. If these guys arent there, Ryder cup with an asterisk.
Europe on the other hand doesnt need anyone from LIV, so its simpler there.

I'm pretty sure Brooks has qualified automatically now.
I could be wrong though :ROFLMAO:

Still got a good few months to go yet but looking at the points at the moment Koepka is outside the automatic qualifiers, currently at 22nd , guess the US don’t put any extra points on for the Majors

So if Koepka doesn’t get anymore high finishes in the majors then he will prob need to rely on a captains pick

The US Team are administered by the PFA of America so there doesn’t appear to be anything stopping him being picked so Johnson will have an interesting decision to make in August

Thankfully Donald has no worries of that nature

Do you still fancy Zalatoris to be in the team?

Don’t think he will be back playing until September now after his back op and I’ll be amazed if he gets a pick

The top 9 will be shoe ins for the US

Then i think Finau will get a pick

If there are no issues then Koepka will get one

Still a way to go but it looks like the PGA Major win elevates Brooks 20 places up to 2nd in US qualification list

Hasn't BDC been pretty poor over the last year, other than his recent showing at the PGA?

It will be interesting to see how he performs between now and September - his game has been there in parts after some fairly obvious body changes he's made, and in Tulsa, it came together for him to finish a decent 7th. I think his odds at the PGA were 100-1 which were waaaay too long for a guy of his ability - but one swallow doesn't make a summer. He doesn't have a great Ryder Cup record anyway, albeit pretty short, so he'd have to be in some ridiculously good form to work his way into Johnsons plans.

Are there 11 (eligible) European players, playing better than Harrington currently? 🤔

😉😉🙂

From post 26 -
"Then the next three could be anyone

Power , Wallace , Perez , Hojgaard’s , MacIntyre , Meronk"
--------
Looking at 2023 results, especially the biggest stages (majors) 🤔

Be interesting to see how the Open goes....

Race hotted up well over the last few weeks with strong claims and provisional bookings made for Bob and Sepp, though the extra paid for the refund option.
Paul's place still probably good unless he does nothing at all.

So strong possibility just one place up for grabs now between Meronk, Power, Noren, Perez, and, with rumours of Luke dialoguing with Padraig Harrington on the topic, Harrington.

If Harrington keeps performing, there is no reason not to pick him.
I like picking players in form for the Ryder Cup though, rather than because he's my pal...

Harrington won’t be in the Ryder Cup as a player ,

Played 8 events on the main tours this year and one top 10

But when essentially you have to pick 4 players who will be out of their depth anyway, and all are rookies, there is a case for 3 rookies out of their depth, and one former player at the level, who is at least in form. He need to show some form over the next 6 weeks though. If there was only place for one "singles only" player, then for sure you would go for the likes of Meronk. But now that Straka and MacIntyre have played themselves on, rather than rolling the dice of 4 from 8. Its back to 2 from 6. And there will be a tendency to pick Paul who will be close, and flies the flag for the Euro tour. Who the 12 man is, is not going to have much bearing golfwise. But a former experienced man like PH would bring benefits just another rookie passenger, cannot.
Power has zero top tens this year, for example.

Harrington won’t be getting picked for a Ryder Cup just like Langer didn’t when all the clamour was about him a few years back

Lowry , Rose , Fleetwood , Alex Noran - amongst plenty of quality players who will be grabbing a pick before Harrington is even thought off
