I’d disagree to an extent, they’ve (hopefully) had statisticians all over this and do similar to what they did last time in Europe, take away the driving length of the US team and make it an accuracy test off the tee and a wedge into the greens competition. Evens the field a massive amount by stopping the Americans bombing the course with driver.

We shall see but for me the PGA Tour is miles ahead in terms of depth and talent.

The PGA have been “miles ahead in terms of talent and depth” many times before in a RC but yet they can’t win in Europe and haven’t done since the 90’s ( 93 to be exact ) and as we all know it’s not about the individual talent of each team it’s about the team collectively

Agreed. I don't think there's anyone in LIV that we desperately miss. Casey at a push if his back hasn't given out that week. Garcia is past it now. Poults and Westy were already past it at the last RC.

Edit: Did you mean Casey when you said Grace?

Yeah European team will not miss a single liv player ATM but the USA may miss bryson, DJ and Reed

So starting to get into the heart of the season and the following players are sitting in the 6 automatic places

Rahm
Rory
Paul
Fitzpatrick
Hovland
Hatton

Guess it’s only Paul’s spot that may change with Perez close

Then that leaves 6 other spots for Capts Pick

Fleetwood
Lowry
Rose

Imo are shoe ins barring injury or major loss in form

Then the next three could be anyone

Power , Wallace , Perez , Hojgaard’s , MacIntyre , Meronk

For the US it looks pretty simple

Top 6

Scheffler
Homa
Young
Speith
Burns
Cantlay

Automatics

Then it’s prob

Schuaffle
Morikawa
Thomas

Those 9 are prob a shoe in

after that it’s three from

Zalatoris
Finau
Kirk
Kitiyama
Theegala

Europe only has 8 players this time, and that is the problem. The drop off after that is dramatic. Paul probably will fade out. Perez and Power need a good summer and are maybes. Disappointing to see MacIntyre has sunk like a stone. Hoped for better and that he would at least have pushed into Power country. But he is already out. The 8 are going to have to do all the heaving lifting if there is to be any chance on the Sunday.

Think we can guarantee they'll be no-one named Speith in the USA team ! ;)
Being serious though - with the USA team being administered by the PGA of America, who next month in their Championship are not aligning with the PGA Tour - does bring the possibility of the captain picking 1 or 2 players from outside of the PGAT.
The whole huh-ha around the ins and out of all that in the States, might actually play into Europe's hand (as they don’t really have that problem to the same degree).

Can't really see Zalatoris being fit and sharp enough by then.

Aren’t our picks half from the world rankings and half from the euro tour? If so, perez is a definite right now

I would be surprised if the US went with any golfer not playing on the PGAT

Zalatoris will be very close

Perez is 4th in the European Points and 11th in the World Points

They pick from the European Points first

Who will the US miss out if they don't go for LIV? Brooks, DJ... Anyone else? Bryson hasn't been particularly good for a while now and Reed isn't worth the hassle.

I think that on paper, the US are miles better than us but that's happened loads of times before and they've ended up losing. I think home advantage will be huge and so it will end up being very close - more like Celtic Manor than Paris.

Rory and Reed in a final day pairing would be epic viewing.

Don't be surprised to see a few LIV guys present in some capacity in Italy, there's a few the USA team would love to have playing, and there's still chance for a few European guys to play their way into Luke Donalds thoughts before September.

Unless a European LIV player wins majors they have next to zero chance of them playing their way into any Ryder Cup team

On the US side - Koepka just about makes it into the top 20 But that gap will grow as each event goes by

The only way they get in is if Captains pick them - after what happened with Stenson there is zero chance Imo that a European LiV gets a pick and there isn’t really anyone that Donald would pick anyway

With the depth of the US Players I don’t expect to see Johnson pick any LiV players as well

It will imo be a fully LIV free event and hopefully the full concentration will be on the Ryder Cup and the players there

What happens if a US LIV player wins a major, a certain for the Ryder Cup or left on the side?
I guess it depends on who it is and where it leaves them in the standings.
If form is anything to go by ZJ will pick the next 6 after the 6 qualifiers.
Brooks may have a chance if he wins one but I'm not sure anyone else would make the top 12 as there's still plenty of PGA events to accumulate enough points.

Even if Reed was on the PGA Tour still, he would only get into the US side by qualifying automatically. They didn't pick him last time and there were loads of thinly veiled comments about team harmony.

They may have already been likely selections, but Perez and Straka making their cases stronger this weekend.

Sure things : Rory, Hovland, Rahm, Fitz, Fleetwood, Hatton, Lowry, Rose.
The likely lesser lights: Perez, Meronk, Straka
Up for grabs but possibly sitting things out until Sunday: Noren, Power, Paul.
