Rubbing Vaseline into your wood

I heard from a fellow golfer that some people used to put a thin layer of vaseline onto the face of their driver to take off side spin. Am I been wound up or is there any truth in it?

I don't think it's a wind up, it is illegal in the rules of golf though. There is a product http://powerstraight.com/ that you can buy which does the same job.

I do not think either would work for me, hell someone remotely controlling my ball couldn't get it to fly straight after one of my slices.

i wouldn't recommended doing that on a golf course you could be done for indecent exposure

You have to apply it in a vertical, up and down motion though! if you put it on from left to right it'll increase fade spin and right to left will increase draw spin

I was sorely disappointed when I actually read the OP.

Honestly be interested to see if it works but not sure how it would.

I am aware its not legal but surly the ball is not on the club face long enough?

We used to spray WD40 on our tyres for qualifying in Karting, it eats the very top layer of the tyre and you get mad grip for half a lap, similar thing and again, not legal...

I'm of the impression that 'hustlers' used to do it, back in the day. Not legal in 'normal play'.

It just reduces friction between club and ball, and it will lessen spin although I don't know how much.

As others have said, it's not legal, but there's nothing to stop you dragging your driver through wet grass before you use it, or if the ball is wet not drying it. Same effect although not as great.

I'm sure of one thing though, rubbbing your wood in wet grass won't feel half a nice
