RIP Arnold Palmer

The man who did so much to make the world of professional golf what it is today. Every player should be thankful to him, and every spectator grateful for what this gentleman brought to the game.

RIP Mr. Palmer.

Sad news. Along with Seve the most exciting player to play the game.

This quote perhaps summed up Palmer's swashbuckling style:

“The steel blurred into the undergrowth and there were noises. The swish of scythed grass, snapping twigs, the crack, a solidcrack…..a bush, airborne, grass and earth scattering around it……suddenly the air cleared and there it was, a black speck far away in the sky and dead on course for the green.” Michael McDonnell, British sportswriter, on ArnoldPalmer’s pivotal recovery shot in the 1961 Open.

If I'd ever met Jack Nicklaus I'd have said "Hi Jack". If I'd ever met Seve it would have been "Ola Seve".
If I'd have ever met Arnold Palmer it would have been "Mr Palmer".
He was revered.

Sad loss but a long life lived to the full with a lasting legacy.

Played the game in a way that enthralled and engaged the public. His respect for and desire to win the Open gave it a new impetus when few Americans bothered coming over to play in it.
