If my memory serves me correctly someone said once and I think it was Arnold Palmer who resurrected the Open Championship and golf in the UK from the doldrums by coming over here and playing it. I believe it was a pretty lack luster affair before then. So we owe him a great debt of gratitude for that.

Tom Watson reckons every professional golfer owes 80% of their prize money to Mr Palmer......

It is a sad day indeed - he was "Mr Golf".

I read a book about his life a couple of years ago - a good read which I've already dug out again.

Loved how he got his Pilots licence and flew his own Jet around the world to play in tournaments.
