The Chevron World Challenge that's just finished was an Invitational event with just 18 players. For the first time, World Ranking points were awarded. This has moved G-Mac up to 38th or something in the ranking, virtually assuring him entry to all the Majors next year. He got 28 ranking points for coming 2nd. Justin Leonard got 3.84 for coming dead last. And that's more than he would got for finishing 37th in the Masters.
Should such a small field be awarded ranking points? With only 18 players, you've got way more chance of winning than in a field of 156.
Should the World Matchplay have points (not sure if it does or not)?
I don't mind for 1 minute that G-Mac has got to 38th or that he's won loads of money, but it does seem harsh on other players he's ousted from the top 50 who didn't get an invite.
I think points should be awarded for full size fields only, these Money-Spinners should be just that and shouldn't impact the World Rankings.

Had it not been for Woods withdrawel he wouldn't have been in the field so not much chance of him making the top 50 for the end of this year.

Amazing how many times in life stuff like this happens so I wouldn't mind a couple of quid on McDowell to win a major next year!!

If the points were remotely proportionate (I've no idea if they were) then it would be cool in my book.

Nice to see that even the pro's can 3putt the last (Westwood).

Nice to see that Furyk won at last (WHAT A PUTT ON THE 17th!!).

Nice to see G-Mac in the top 50.... I hope he ousted an American from the list :)

I thought it was a good tourney, worth watching and the course looked lovely. Amazing how many shots ended up in the stream short of the par3.

Paddy has played fantastic the last few months, I hope he does well in 2010.

My 2 cents :)
