Random Irritations

What do you do when people are off sick? A well run business surely has the capacity to cope when the odd person is off either sick or on holiday.
The key point is "odd person off", the leave was obviously turned down as the margins were too slim to allow it and then the individual has called in sick (during half term) which looks very suspect.

That's pretty much the answer there. Also, how big do you think all businesses are? How much spare do you think there is? People can move around, possibly, but it inconvenient and can have a knock on effect.

Equally, throw in the smaller business where it becomes a real struggle if multiple people are off? They can cope if they absolutely have to, short term, but if someone is deliberately inconveniencing the company.........

Sometimes, for the smaller businesses the old factory fortnight looks a good option. Have the vast majority of staff scheduled to be off at the same time. By all means have some admin in manning the phones.

That is effectively what we do. We closely fully over Christmas and for 1 week in August. These are compulsory holidays. Other days are taken at their choice but the staff know that they can not all be off at the same time. There is plenty of give and take so we have no issues.

What happens when the boss gets a short notice invite to play golf?

Went to see Talking Sopranos yesterday, loved the show and got to hear some behind the scenes stories etc. However, they did a Q&A and it just felt like the people asking the questions, from the audience, had just come down from space.

A relief Rd is being built across the south of the town...when it's eventually finished it'll be great apart from I area.
A road to one of the villages intersects this new road....this road used to be relatively straight.
Instead of building the junction where the 2 roads meet they've built 500 metres or so of new road the moves the junction about 150 metres.
This was designed by a complete and utter moron....there are bends that cannot be negotiated by 2 cars at the same time as they are too sharp, there is a chicane that will cause a crash within days as, again, it's too sharp and there's the smallest of small mini roundabouts to get you back onto the old road - anything bigger than a Fiesta sized car has to cut the roundabout otherwise it just isn't getting round.
Obviously designed by a computer and, funnily enough, computers don't drive....
Another road to avoid like the plague.......

Re WFH versus office

It's bleedin obvious

For the 'right kind of ppl' is fantastic for employers and employee and productivity up etc etc
For just as many it's a freakin skive, with lower productivity , bunking off and general do as you please

Ppl should be assessed for the appropriate skills and suitability to WFH before being allowed and ongoing monitoring
Some mange this when in the work place. I rememder working with a bloke on a loading bay, and when i certain delivery used to arrive you'd no sooner said "oh flippin' eck xyz's here" and you'd see the door to upstairs bang shut. Yes, me and a mate do laugh about it now, but not when we were working there.

Some days you just don’t know where to post on here. Golf at College Pines, nice Course under the circumstances. Golf was rammel though.proper rammel. You can tell I have not picked up a club for two weeks.
I was looking forward to playing with a guy who I had a good man to man talk with a couple of weeks ago. There was three of us nattering on that day. Both said they would go for a PSA test. Anyway one ended up having a biopsy on his prostate. He never turned up today as he was given the results of his biopsy’s, which I never knew about until he txt me on the course. Bottom line he has Prostate cancer. It has knocked him for six. It has proper knocked my duck off. For a couple of holes I honestly couldn’t swing a club right. In the context of things I know it is not about my game but I couldn’t help but think about my part in persuading him to go for a test. As Missis T said “ it’s for the best, he has not left it and left it”. He has an op in a couple of weeks so is hoping to get out of a few rounds. He has sent me a few nice txt messages thanking me for supporting him.
I always try and find a positive, and I know this subject has been said time and time again, but guys, get yourself checked out.

It's nothing more than pure narcissism.
I remember returning from Lanzarote to Luton, (should have been Gatwick, but that's another story), and some bint on the plane was wearing tiny white shorts, a tiny white top and tiny white sandals so as to show off her tan.
It was snowing!
:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: 🤮
She certainly got your attention 😆

I’m flying to South Africa on Thursday. Will travel in shorts/tshirt/light jumper & trainers. Stuff wearing longs just for the plane trip (never wear longs over there) I can bear to be cold on the tube for an hour rather than take jeans/chinos which won’t be used

It’s an odd un when you are getting on a plane and looking at the weather where you are going. When I came back from Marrakesh last week it was 23/34 degrees and gorgeous. Shorts and tee shirt. Coming back I had jeans and t shirt. 14 degrees, and the taxi driver was shivering in the car taking us to Marrakech airport. When we landed I had T shirt, long sleeved top, golf jacket and waterproof jacket. It was bloody freezing. 🫣

Flip side of that I boarded a plane Sunday in -26°, go off this end at 7°. I wish I’d had shorts and flip flops on! Went to the range last night everyone was wrapped up including Mrs M, there was me in t shirt sleeves asking her not to put the baya heater on!
